In the modern age, science and technology has been bringing people increasing convenience, colorful experience and at the same time adequate enjoyment. Television is exactly one of the most important inventions. The speaker in the title statement advocates that book reading no more be as important as before, television brings about a new type of learning, which is better than book. In my point of view, it is true that inventing of television bring people a more colorful and more interesting sources of knowledge, but book as a tradtionary source of knownledge can not be replaced by television and its  still as important as before.

Admittedly, television has widely entered most families and become part of people's life in our society. we get tremendous social information such as political issues, economic and cultural news, sports games and so on from television, through which we also obtain a new type of learning and  extend our horizon by such documentary programs as National Geographic and Discovery, whose contents are probably otherwise unapproachable in our entire lifetime.  

However, some programs broadcasted in television might have negative effects to people, especially young children and adolescents. For example, it was reported that in the United States, the democratic modal nation of the world, roughly 97 percent prime-time broadcast TV is devoted to entertainment programs. And some strictly confined programs, such as violence, sex and so on, which are only approached by adults can be freely and conveniently accessed to the young children and adolescents, which negatively influences the growing of adolescents who have little immunity to the surrounding things and cannot discriminate them, and which give rise to the occurrences of crimes of adolescents to some extents. In this respect, it is ridiculous to say that the television is good way to learn knowledge.

There are some characteristics of book that can no be replaced by television. Book as an exterior format of knowledge has been prevailing for thousands of years and are rish in all kinds of information such as culture, art, music, architecture and so on. Especially for some costly books, which documented our past and wrote in very far old days, their values are replaceable by another other media.

There are also other advantages of book. Book is so small that they can be carried by one's side and can be read at anywhere anytime. Television then only placed at one certain place. Moreover, it is important that we can choose different kinds of books actively, but have no choice to watch the programs in television passively.

To sum up, though television is now the primary source of political, economic, social, and cultural information as well as entertainment programs for a majority of people throughout the world, function and form of media has determined its own advantages and also disadvantages. Take the learning affairs into account; we??d rather resort to reading books for the acquiring of knowledge, which provides us more convenience and initiative
