The writer asserts that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain and the patients suffering muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of treatment. To support the conclusion, the write shows us the difference between the patients who had taken antibiotics and those who had not taken antibiotics in a study. At the first glance, this saying is reasonable, but analyzing deeply, we will found it not so convincing. This argument had flawed several critical respects.

First, the there is not enough information about the patients as the sample in the study. So, no one can rule out the possibility that there are significant differences between the two groups of patient.  If the health condition of the patients of the first group is good than that of the second group, it will be hard to assert whether it is antibiotics that helped reduce the recuperation time. Maybe it is only because they are strong.

Second, the study was finished by two doctors, in order to contrast the difference between the patients who had taken antibiotics and those who had not. But, beside antibiotics, did other treatments the same? If not, it will be hasty to draw the conclusion that the difference between the two group is caused by antibiotics. Maybe the reason is the difference between food of the two groups, or other drugs.

Thirdly, as we know, antibiotics can lead to the bacteria’s drug resistance. So, if the patients’ disease is not so serious, it would be better not to take antibiotics. Because once inflated more seriously, it will be hard for antibiotics to be effective if the bacteria’s drug resistance is caused.

To sum up, it is not sure whether the study is convincing. To strengthen the conclusion the writer should provide more information about the patients and the treatment of the study. He should also study the probability of the secondary infections
Moreover, whatever antibiotics is effective in curing, for the long-term health of the patients, the writer should be careful to advised patients to take antibiotics as part of their treatment.
