Interest, a treasure which can help students to be more motivated to study, has brought colossal contravention to educators who design the education system. Although ,like beacon in the night, interest guide the student survive in the sea of knowledge, it is unwise and will not be truly effective by specifically designing education to fulfill the individual needs and interests of each student. What we need is a kind of education which is constructive to the development of the society. I do remain my opinion that the traditional general education is effective.
Take school education as an object to be discussed. The teaching resources in schools can not well support the specific design. Nowadays , in order to be a cultivated person when growing up, nearly every child were sent to school to receive better education which would enlighten and instruct students to fit different jobs in almost every filed after graduated. Since few of them would become teachers in the future, the amount of teachers is definitely far more less than that of students .Thus it is extremely apparent that one teacher will take charge a large amount of students. With little mercy in mind , to ask the teachers to specifically design education to meet their own students' interests is dispiteous because the time and energy of a common human being are limited, and if a teacher is ask to attempt it , he or she would be exhausted in daily job , even resign after a few days working. At the same time, the equipments and the space of a school are limited too. Take the sports class for example, even if a teacher is so eminent that he or she is completely competent for individual interest requirements of his or her 50 students, it is difficult to provide 50 kinds of sports equipments some of which are seldom to be detected in some professional sports university, such as boating ,F1 and so on. In that case, to fulfill every student's interest is just something happened in dreams and unpractical.
Furthuer more ,the purpose of the education prevents the ideal of specifically designed education to became true. Take school education for example too, even if the teaching resources is sufficient enough to satisfy everybody's individual needs, the special education still should not be carry out because the function of one teacher is not to and impossible to tutor students how to pursue their dreams, but to made them cultivated persons who are generally well educated. Whereas, if it is carried out in every school of every states, what consequence would be led to? In the beginning, a student who prefer and have more interest in mathematics would suppose he or she has come to the heaven of math. Then after ten years' hard working on the subject, there would be nothing but equation in his or her mind , which would make the very student famish in the modern society because of lacking working skills ,the basic etiquette in communication and cognizance of human society just like a bookworm. However ,with a little known of commonsense, it is general education who teach students how to earn a living in this competitive rapid growing society, how to show one’s respect to the circumambient people in this numb society and how to set up proper world views and philosophies to vanquish the evil ideals in nowadays society fraught with desires and cupidity. In short, it is crystal clear that the general education cultivates children to be a man living in the society, in the opposite the special design education makes student a pedant living in the world of their own interests. In this situation the assumption reveal how groundless to fulfill the individual needs and interests of each student is and commonsense indicate that what the student need is general education in this era.
However the functionality of students' interests can not be ignored. Best effort should be made to keep student interested and not flagging in learning and accessorial course should be settled in order to extend the knowledge ,for example, a student majored in medicine has a strong interest in biology would be constructive to his major after taking same biology course.
When all the facts examined, we may safely go the conclusion that to specifically design education in order to meet the individual needs and interests of each student will not be truly effective for education and , even worse it may do harm to students . The general education which cooperate with the developing society is effective.
