People who hold the idea of “luck has nothing to do with success” say that all our achievements come from hard working. With no intention to dimish the importance of hard working, I maintain that luck is also an indispensable factor in any success.
People often say, “let’s seize the moment and get things done”. From time to time we complain that we are all ready but short of an right opportunity. The emergence of that very moment or the right opportunity is depending on luck. An impressive example I want to cite is a true story I read from newspaper. There are two brothers from a poor famaliy in a remote area of China, who are equally clever and diligent. However the family can only afford sending one of them to college and they decided to make the choosing by fliping a coin. The younger brother got the chance to attend the college and eventually became a famous scholar, while the older brother, who called the wrong side of the coin, stayed at home and worked all his life in the farmfiled. Now, can you say that the younger brother’s success has nothing to do with luck? There are numerous similar examples that can show how luck influences our success and our lives.
Although we can work out many problems with strong determination and laborious effort, there are still many things out of our control, for instance, weather. Imagine that a fishman has prepared everything needed in an ideal fishing season. His boat was built and equippted with the finest fishnet. However, the weather was really awful and the fishman could do nothing but wait at home. After two month’s continual raining, the weather start to turn better but the fishing season has gone. In this case, we can only say that this fishman was in bad luck. To have what you need in the right time is luck and it can not be absent in any success.
