Issue38
“In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.”
耗时:约2个半小时。字数670。谢谢好心人帮我修改,我会报恩的!大家要互相帮助,共同进步哦!

I agree that television plays a more and more important role in our lives, but does this increasing important tendency mean that watching television now can have an equal place with reading books? I don’t think so. The reason is what we usually learn through TV programs is different from we through books. And reading, in my opinion, has its own special meaning to everyone. On the other hand, television has two effects on learners (mainly on teenagers)--providing large helpful information, at the same time, bringing some negative impacts.

Firstly, television provides us more direct, vivid and instant information, while books give us more thoughtful and logical knowledge. Since television programs integrate sound and photos, this multi-media measure can help learners to acquire information much easily than before. Like scientific program-- “Animal World”, with the help of video, pictures and audio explanation, learners can well understand characters and habits of one or several animals by watching only 20 minutes-program. In addition, through concerning programs of news, editorials, reports, people will acquire lately information of current society. These programs assist us to know conditions of residents, decisions of politics and tendency of economy. They are like our eyes, observing the dynamic world and transmitting information to us. Unlike television, relying on letter and number, book shows another style of information to us. For example, book is always used to record affairs happened long ago, which we call history. From these history books, people will read our ideas and experiences of our ancestors. Besides, in most science books, many deducing processes are written down. So by reading them, we learn how to carry on logical analysis.

Secondly, reading has its own special meanings. Bacon once said: Reading makes people plenty. Reading, not only as a measure we get information, mainly teach us how to think and express. Through continues reading, we can taste accurate words, beautiful sentences, deep thinking, strict reasoning and impeccable logic. And these capabilities are significant to our living, if we are seeking a meaningful and valuable life. After all, we cannot acquire these from television because it does not leave time for us to taste and think, meanwhile, not provide us accurate and careful description. Therefore, we usually catch sentimental recognition from watching television, but gain rational and sentimental understanding from reading. Further more, we can also improve patience and concentration by reading since some books are so obscure that we need to enter into the books to understand them, which always takes a long time and much attention.

Thirdly, though television is a quick and convenient learning way sometime, it also brings some problems. One is Juvenile delinquency. The reason is that parts of programs include antisocial, antihuman, violent, extreme or sexual contents, and then immature teenagers may accept those not good ideas without thoughtfully or imitate inner actions because of curious through watching programs. Another problem is watching too much TV will affect normal study. We often hear some parents complain that their children spend too much time on watching TV so that they have no time on their studies. And from our own experiences, we have to concede that many TV programs actually have addictions to their audiences, especial those soap operas. In addition, watching TV for too long time would be a great harm to eyesight, especially to youths. Last but critically, too much concern on TV programs will not help us to be an incisive and concentrative person; In contrast, we may become flippancy who concerns surface more than inferior. It results from that televisions always let us watch phenomena of surface but not leave us enough time for profound thinking.

To sum up, regardless how grate impacts television brings to our lives, or in the future maybe other modern measures we can use for acquiring easily, reading, as a traditional learning approach, will and can not be alternative by any others. That is, Reading, not only a measure to convey information, more importantly, teach us how to lead a meaningful and valuable live.

I agree that television plays a more and more important role in our lives, but does this increasing important tendency mean that watching television now can have an equal place with reading books? I don’t think so.(这句话有点突兀,可以和后面连起来,加一个for ) The reason is(that) what we usually learn through TV programs is different from (what语法错误)we (gain) through books. And reading, in my opinion, has its own special meaning to everyone.(和后面接不上,可能你想表达的是一方面读书对人们有多大意义,另一方面电视会产生消极影响for one thing, reading, according to my experiences/view, is not t only benefitial but also enlighting to the people's minds,) (while) On the other hand, television (just instill all the information to you , no matter is positive or negtive.) has two effects on learners (mainly on teenagers)--providing large helpful information, at the same time, bringing some negative impacts.

眼睛实在疼得厉害,下次该全了再发吧
