Issue 5: A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer.


The speaker asserts that every student should study the same knowledge before college, but I think otherwise. In my opinion, schools should have right to choose which academic courses to offer in a certain circumstance.

First of all, each place has its own characteristic. Instead of ignore these differences, schools should provide courses to educate their students about them. Take history for the illustration, as we all know, local histories are the legacy which is given by our ancestors. They are the foundation of our society. However, there were so many important things happened in history and it is impossible to provide a history course which covers all the local history in the country. Therefore, choosing what to teach to local students by schools is the best way to solve this problem. Other than history, there are many aspects which are different from place to place, such as local arts, music, sport activities, and so on.

Moreover, despite the area differences, the character of school is also vital. Government cannot ask schools do the exact the same as the others. We should respect the uniqueness of each school. An important function of school is to provide useful people for our society. In the mean while, society needs different types of people. Therefore, some schools focus on application and some of them are dedicate themselves on making their students has the ability to enter higher education institution. Although these two kinds of people accept different education, they are all useful for the society. Various jobs should be taken by various people and these makes our world colorful. An artist cannot be trained after he/she went to college, the education is started even when they are eight or night year old.

Admittedly, no one can deny that some of the main academic courses should remain same in a nation. Because courses like mathematic, physics, standard linguistic grammar cannot be changed by places. And schools should always remain these courses to be the same. It makes our society stable and effective. Take the standard linguistic grammar for an illumination. In my opinion, one of the most successful things which is been done by our ancestor is they build a language system which can make everyone communication without any obstacle. If we cannot communication with others, human kind cannot have such a great improvement in such a short period of time. Our planet will become a tragedy, if people could not understand each other. Therefore, keep the courses which relate basic activities the same is a wise decision.

To sum up, we should respect the uniqueness of schools, it makes our world colorful and in the mean while, the courses which influence the basic activities of people should remain the same. Because of these two aspects, our society could move forward in an incredible speed.
