ARGUMENT8 The following appeared in a memorandum issued by the strategic planning department at Omni Inc.
"Mesa Foods, a manufacturer of snack foods that currently markets its products within a relatively small region of the country, has strong growth potential. Mesa enjoyed a 20 percent increase in profits last year, and its best-selling product, Diabolique Salsa, has had increased sales over each of the past three years. Since Omni Inc. is interested in reaching 14-to-25 year olds, the age group that consumes the most snack food, we should buy Mesa Foods, and concentrate in particular on marketing Diabolique Salsa throughout the country."

Through the memorandum, the strategic planning department at Omni Inc. asserts that the Mesa Foods is proper for the company’s strategy, so Omni Inc. should buy Mesa Foods and try to market Diabolique Salsa all over the country. To support the suggestion, the statement recommends Mesa Foods is fast growing in small region of the country and the best-selling product has increased sales during the past three years. Carefully scrutinizing the memorandum, it will be found that the evidences included are weakly supported the assertion.

First and foremost, the suggestion bases on the supposition that Mesa Foods’ products could meet the taste of 14-to-25 year olds, but evidence supporting that isn’t mentioned in the memorandum. The Omni Inc.’s strategic customs is people aged from 14 to 25, so whether Mesa Foods is valuable for the company to buy mainly bases on whether its products could sell well in 14-to-25 year olds. The memorandum says how fast Mesa Foods grow and how well the its products sell, but no words is about whether the products meet the whole developing strategy of the Omni Inc. If the products of Mesa Foods can not accept by young people, all the evidences mentioned are useless. So the memorandum makes a deadly mistake.

Secondly, in the memorandum Mesa Foods is introduced as a company with strong growth potential, but it’s weakly proved. It says that the profits of Mesa Foods increased 20 percent last year and its best-selling product has increased sales over the past three years. Even if all the numbers above are true, that can not prove the Mesa Foods has a strong growth potential. Whether a company or an incorporation has the potential to grow powerfully mainly decide by its strategy or management. The increase in a few years could prove nothing, because the market also makes a mistake. The fast increase could be induced by advertisement or something else, but that could not last for long time. So only mentioning the Mesa Foods’ increase in a short time can not prove it has a powerful grow potential.

In addition, even if Mesa Foods’ best-selling product Diabolique Salsa is really welcomed by the 14-to-25 year olds in some region, but that can not prove it also be sold well throughout the country. As it is said in the memorandum the Mesa Foods and its products grow fast only in a small part of the country, that maybe means the products could only meet a few people’s taste in that region. If that is true, the strategy to concentrate on marketing them all over the country could be the worst and may ruin the Omni Inc.. So the evidences support that the products could be well accepted must be included.

In sum, the evidences used in the memorandum can not support the suggestion well, and a lot of key evidences are not mentioned. To support the suggestion powerfully, the memorandum needs more evidences and the particular introduction of the Mesa Foods including whether the products could meet 14-to-25 year olds and could accepted well by most people in the country. Unless that the suggestion could not be well accepted.

有个质疑
14岁到25岁不见得是绝对的 对商家而言  盈利至上  即使不是目标客户群
全文把这个在这个驳斥点 主要矛盾抓的不准
