In this argument, the arguer recommends that Elm City University should increase salary of Professor Thomas by 10000 dollars and promote her to be Department Chairperson for fear of her possible departure from the university due to the injustice treat of school to her. To support this suggestion, the arguer rests on the fact that Professor Thomas has brought a large amount of money that have exceeded her salary to the university in research grants in each of the last two years. And, the arguer also assumes that she has an outstanding teaching and research abilities which are asserted that can be demonstrated by some reasons seeming superficially credible. However, in fact, this argument is much fallacious in several respects, primarily for some illogical assumption.

The first false assumption involves the assertion of the arguer that it reflects the popularity of Professor Thomas among students based on the fact that Professor Thomas led the largest class at the university. And maybe she didn’t participate directly in the research just because of her relative insufficient research abilities but still make a certain contribution to the results of the research. Without clarifying or ruling out these possibilities, it cannot justify those abilities by such a fact.

Even though she has a distinguished teaching and research abilities, there is no evidence that show s her requirement and will of calling for increase in salary and being the Department Chairperson and guarantee her competence for the position of Department Chairperson.
