The speaker asserts that education should only be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student to make it truly effective. The statement itself is a little misleading in my opinion, so I strongly disagree with it in some facets, as argued below.
Nowadays educated person are becoming more and more important in improving the general strength of one country. Consequently, how person should be educated becomes the primary problem that should be solved as soon as possible. Facts have proven that the traditional teacher-centered education does not facilitate the development of the whole society and students themselves, these include that some excellent students were not able to present their advantages as they spent to much time on some curriculums that made nothing good to them. Does this mean that we should design an education system that student-centered? Individual needs are absolutely important for the development of a student; however, the individual needs sometimes should yield to the needs of the whole society for the more effective development of it. That's why millions of dollars are spent to help those who devote to these fundamental subjects that a lot of students are not interested in for the future development of the society in our country.
Students learn something quickly if they are interested in them, but in another sense, meeting students' unreasonable desires would surely result in chaos in education and also make the development of the society impair. There are some specific skills and abilities that need to be developed and taught--regardless of students' interests. That is the need of the development of the society as a whole, such as basic knowledge which is need to be taught to all students. We don't want to see that our students only know what they are interested in without thinking about the development of the whole country, which is bad for the development the education and students themselves, and those educated students could not present their advantages in the development of themselves and benefiting the society. So we need a balance between the teacher-centered and student-centered education, and create an education system that both meets the individual needs and interests of each student and benefits the whole country. That's an emergency that both educators and our governmental officers should concern.
To sum up, the speaker ignores to think about that what will result in if we make the education designed that only meets individual needs and interests of each student, the fulfillment of unreasonable desires would only poison the students and make the society impair. We need a middle strategy between teacher-centered and student-centered education which both benefit the students themselves and the whole society.
