As the most notable path-break of human technology in our time marked by great change and transformation, the television and worldwide computer connections, which make possible the communication and information sharing through long distance, naturally exert its profound and extensive influence on our whole society and thus become the focus of the debate. While wholehearted embracing all the conveniences and efficiency the communication and media technologies brought, doubts and misgivings spring out as our life has been changing at an ever-increasing speed with no definite direction. Many crucial industries have been changed, either to incorporate with the technology trend or begin their miserable decline. Fortunately for the tourism industry, the development of telecommunication offers an unprecedented opportunity for its prosperity, although minute challenges do exist.

Undoubtedly, nowadays we do not need to travel across millions of miles simply to have a sight of the rainforest, nor do we know what the icebergs look like only after a worn to a frazzle trek; while information in all forms of media, such as television programs, DVD files, websites and pictures, depicts a vivid picture of what we desire to know, we can comfortably sit in our soft sofa and drinking coffee at the same time. And what happens to the tour industry meanwhile? Do people working in traveling agent worried about their future and seek for jobs in other fields?

Admittedly, the improved technologies provide us alternative means to get to know every corner of the world initially, and that is all it can substitute the personal experience. Tourism is indispensable if we want to enjoy the sunlight and zephyr of the Caribbean seashore and dive under ocean. Tourism is impossible to be replaced if we still long for the virgin snow of Alps, the singing of birds in woods, or the touch of the bricks made thousands of years ago on the Great Wall. In simple, as long as we still yearn for the intimate communication and interaction with great nature and other appealing communities, tourism will exist and thrive.

On the other hand, the improving technologies function as an engine for the bloom of traveling industry internationally. The faster and cheaper communication methods, say, airlines and cable cars make our travel more efficient and convenient; the spreading traffic lines, like express ways or bridges, expand our choices for visit; the advanced facilities also make it possible for us to further explore the mystery of the nature.

Even the telecommunications, such as the television or computer network which the author reckon as substitute of tourism, in contrast, can actually promote the flourish of tourism industry, as the tourist market already realized and successfully utilized. Turn on the TV set, numerous propagandistic films are broadcasted day and night to attract every possible customers. Surfing on the internet, pictures and detailed schedules of tours are available and to make a deal, we only need to make a phone call or finish an e-registration. With the prevalence of improved media, we will eventually travel more and relish more, rather than abandon the tourism.

No doubt that the future technology will continue to update, and after the above analysis, it is out of question that no matter what we can access though the almighty media, tourism, as the sole method to personally contact with the real world, will keep its vitality and bring us more pleasures.
