"Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
1,太个性化的教学不利于合作意识、交往能力、领导才能的培养
2,感兴趣的不一定是适合的,不感兴趣的也可能是必须要学的
3,资源限制,不可实现
(words: 412 time: n/a)
Only under the circumstances that education is specifically designed to meet each student’s individual needs and interests will it be truly effective, according to the statement. Admittedly, specifically designed education will cultivate one’s innate potential in a quite effective way to an extent, such as piano training offered to a single child finding out his musical talent. However, specifically designed education cannot avoid some severe challenges followed.
The first challenge coming up springs from the conflicts between the requirements modern society calls for and the abilities cultivated in such an education way, the gap between them making it hard for students to adapt to the society. Such abilities as interpersonal skills, leadership, team work, can only be established and strengthened in a union, like a class with a group of students in the same age. Take team spirit for an example, most companies nowadays set it as a basic and kernel criterion in recruiting, for the obvious reason that contemporary job cannot be accomplished by a single man as before but cooperated efficiently with his colleagues.
Another problem deriving from contradiction between needs and interests challenges the effectiveness of such an education way as well. What a student is interested in may not be what is needed for him; what a student dislikes may be a significant skill in his future need. Generally speaking, some fundamental disciplines, such as mathematics and physics, are far less welcomed than some ‘interesting’ subjects like computer and information technology, for the learning process of the former subjects, including quantities of theories and their proving, formulas, is boring for most learners. However, it is the development in such fundamental disciplines that makes science advancing forward.
Even worse, such an education way cannot be made into practice on large scale due to the limits of resources. As known to all, population explosion is a worldwide problem in 21st century. The increasing population makes it impossible for such an education way to come true. For some developing countries, many people are suffering from poverty, starvation, lacking basic education. If the resource used to design specific education was used to practice mass education, more people would definitely benefit from it, which might be more effective to the whole society.
To sum up, even if this education way specifically designed to each student came into reality, the conflicts between the requirements of modern society and student’s abilities, between the needs and interests eventually decline the effectiveness of this kind of education.
