TOPIC: ISSUE11 - "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

The assertion presented above said that all nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems, which is quite one-sided and idealistic so that I can only partly agree with it because when talking about the world's most persistent social problems, it is quite impossible for different nations to agree with others for the variety of nations do exist.

As we all know, the trend of globalization is thriving and in that case, the assertion made a wise decision that nations will facing some kinds of global problems which means global university is a necessity, especially in natural science fields. For instance, global warming has troubling all nations nowadays. According to recent scientific researches, the weather turning worse and the melting of iceberg cause a lot of problems such as some islands will disappear forever from the Earth in the near future. Also, for some social problems, they are global and persistent such as war and peace. Thus, nations should join their hands together to engage students in making efforts in solving this kind of global problem after graduation.

However, it is also known to all that different nations have different culture also different conditions. Mao, the famous Chinese politician, once said and noted as one of the principles of ruling a country which I paraphrase that we should always design right policies taking accounts to the real situation of right country. For example, the racial prejudice seems to be one of the social problems in immigrant countries such as U.S.A., Indonesia, etc.. But in countries like South Korea, Japan, etc., the kind of social problem never occurs since they are one-racial countries. That is to say, it's hard for these countries to study some kind of social problems which do not happen in their own countries and it will be really hard for different nations to have the same opinion of what are the world's most persistent social problems which quite opposite with world's most persistent environmental problems such as global warming presented above.

Furthermore, we should also take some small nations and those nations whose people still suffer from poverty, starve etc., which have no spear power to help support the development of the global university designed by the author. How could we image those countries which even have no school to develop this kind of universities and even once they have chances to build a university, the first program should engage students in the process of solving the problem like poverty of their own. Take New Zealand as an example, there are only 7 universities in the country and since the population is small, a newly built global university may face the awkward situation that few student apply for studying in it.

In sum, the assertion do make a great suggestion and draw a fabulous script of such kind of universities, however, it is too idealistic and has some flaws in the suggestion itself if it is applied to reality. Thus, in my point of view, people should develop such department in different universities of most countries.
