The suggestion that the dentists who advertise should attract male patients seems at the first glance to be a sensible advice. After all, the statistics indicates that the men faint three times as women while visiting the dentist. However, the respondents of statistics may be not representative of the whole groups of dentists and the suggestion might mislead the dentists in several reasons, as discussed below.

To begin with, the dentists who respond the statistics is likely fail to be an sufficient sample to draw a reliable conclusion. Perhaps the dentists are only a small fraction of the overall dentists and their clients' performances are actually different from that of other dentists' clients. Maybe in other dental clinics women are more likely to faint than the men. Moreover, what's the proportion of men among those dentists' whole clients? Perhaps the majority of the patients are men. If so, it's not strange that the men faint three times as the women in that the rates of the men who faint are still far less than women. In addition, the speaker unfairly equals feeling distressed to faint. Maybe women are more distressed in spite of small number of their faint. Without ruling out these possibilities, the speaker cannot convince me that the men are more likely to be distressed about having work done than women are.

Secondly, even the men are more likely to be distressed, the speaker's suggestion that the dentists who advertise should emphasize on the male by relieve their fear is unreasonable. Perhaps the men, in spite of their distress, still choose to see the dentists when there is something wrong with their tooth, however, the women may avoid seeing a doctor even when they are ill due to their distress and only few of them would go to the dentist. If so, the advertisement should attract the women patients' attentions to earn more profits. Moreover, whether an individual would go to a dentist depends on many factors such as the cost, the dentist's professional level, as well as the dental clinic's instruments. Only relieving their anxieties is not the best way to attract more patients.

In sum, the speaker's suggestion is based on several unsubstantiated evidence and therefore unconvincing. Before conclusion about the manner the dentists' advertisements should follow, a more exact survey should be conducted to make clear the men and women's feeling when they having dental work and the speaker should identify the most important factor that contributes to an individual's choice for whether go to a dental clinic.
