Some people think the students should take the subjects which are decided by the government or the university. Others think that students can apply for the subjects they prefer. Discuss the two situations and give your opinion.
In modern education, au issue in terms of students’ subjects has aroused people’s discussion heatedly. Some people think students should take the subjects which are set by the government or the university, while others argue that students should apply for the subjects according to their own interests.
Those people who support that the students should select the subjects in accordance with their own interests only see part of the essence of modern education. They think the students should develop themselves with their own thoughts, choose what they want to learn and do what they want to do. But they don’t fathom other functions of education, which are to cultivate talents for the nation construction, to help students to find jobs and to make them experts in a field. And if allowed to apply for the subjects in terms of interests, students cannot know what they should learn to become a businessman, a physical scientist or a doctor.
However, if students learn all the subjects set by the government or college, they would lose their interests because they cannot be cultivated as what they want to be. Also, the college education cultivates spiritual levels; and all the demands for spirit are not the same. Giving students a chance to apply for subjects is outweigh the restriction on the subjects.
In conclusion, my view is that the college should provide a certain number of subjects for students to take compulsorily and, at the same time, give them enough space to learn what they want to cultivate their own spiritual education. And, only this ‘subject’ way, I think, could benefit students most because they can be taught to experts and could develop their own advantages.
