TOPIC: ISSUE83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."
WORDS: 515          TIME: 0:52:00          DATE: 2008-4-7                     13

Should government have the responsibility to preserve publicly owned wilderness, as the statement contends? I concede that such areas are often extremely remote places where few people live. Therefore, there is little value to protect these areas considering interests of most people. However, such areas have important effects on the ecological system on the earth. More over, the wildness areas are also home of wild animals and plants. From such ecological aspects, it is quite significant to preserve these areas and protect animals and plants there from extermination for the welfare of our human beings.

With the development of science and technology, more and more places have been exploited by people and people can go and live in anywhere with highly improved transformation technology, which leads to sharp decreasing of wildness areas. But such areas play vital roles for the balance of our ecological system on the earth. For example, rain forests in South America and Africa have important effects on the climate of the whole earth. If people and government do not take measures to preserve such areas, there will be no wildness areas in the future which can largely destruct our environment. I can not imagine we live on the planet where no rain forests exist. Because we are guilty of decreasing wildness areas, it is our responsibility to protect them.

More over, there are many wild animals and rare plants in such areas.  Preserving wildness areas means protecting the home of these animals and plants. With humans' hunting, many animals have exterminated. Variety of animal species is important for maintaining environmental balance. Because all animals and plants are in the feeding chains, including our human being, thus lacking of any of them can destruct these chains and disturb ecological balance to further extent.  Although most of wildness areas are remote, it can not impede certain people's greediness. Attracting the large profits of rare animals and plants, they can take every effort to catch them wherever they live.  Therefore, we should keep every rare animal from being killed.  Unless we make efforts to protect wildness areas which also means protecting animals and plants existing there immediately, there would be no species in the word and finally our human would l also disappear on the earth.

Above all, wildness areas are important to people from the aspects of sustained development of our society. By preserving wildness areas, what we protect is not only these areas and biology living there but also welfare of our future generation. What's more, with economical development, polluting problems are more and more serious. More and more CO2 emits from automobiles into the air, the acid rain happens more frequently and lands' deserting is more and more terrible. All of these problems are the warning from the nature for our human beings and make protecting wildness areas more and more significant and necessary. Therefore, not only government but also our ordinary people should take measures to protect wildness areas and environment on our planet to further case. Only in this way can maintain the existing of generations in the future.
