about advanced grammar

先说说我自己，一般的语法我自认还是没问题，各种从句，同位语什么的可以很顺畅的运用。
但是读一些essay,发现别人的句子好多自己根本就写不出来，而且看起来也比较费力，要读好几遍才能明白。
不知道大家有没有同样的感觉，有没有什么比较高阶的语法书推荐？
比如我摘抄一个句子把，下面这个句子，真的是，我无论如何也写不出来：
The conditions of societ which brought it forth and nourished it have long disappeared: but as those far-off stars which once were and are not,  still continue to shed their rays upon us, so the light of chivalry, which was a child of feudalism, still illuminates our moral path, survivng its mother institution.

但是不能总追求短小的主谓宾句子吧？
文章写长了，总是需要一些不一样的句法吧？
