The statement concludes that open a café in Monarch will bring more customers of the bookstore by the manager. However, in my opinion many of these reasons can be challenged and the conclusion is also open to doubt.
First, the speaker failed to give us a reason why opening a café would attract more customers. Obviously, a long history and relative more clients are the advantage of the competition with Regal but the reason of that setting up the café may bring customers. Although the opponent has open a café to attract customers, that method must not be efficient of Monarch Books. The conditions of the two bookstores are different, so that they are not comparable. Different store may absorb different kinds of customers, so to estimate whether new customers would like café should be examined in investigation. If café are not popular in Monarch’s customer, it even may be bad effects. In common sense, the best way to improve is baseing one ones advantage. Just as the speaker said, by the excellence of its historical, Monarch may have better performance of utilize the advantage of its long time experiences but copying the successful way of the Regal.
Second, the census, the manager mentioned is also difficult to be trusted for us. I have to question about the details of the census. What is the subject of it? When and where does it take? Who is the investigator and who is the interviewee? Because of all of these elements have not been definite, we cannot believe that the result of the report are property.
Third, even though the percent of the children decline cannot indicate that the popularity of the books for children under age ten is reduced. We cannot find the necessary connection between this reason and result. A brilliant new book’s edition can lead to the prosperity of the whole industry. For example, Harry Potter is a well-known name among children and teenagers. When the newest version came to the reader, children all over the world lined up to wait the opening of the store last night. Their purchasing power is tremendous that it cannot be overlooked.
In sum, to persuade us to believe that open a new café in Monarch can do more good to harm in attracting customers, the speaker’s must give us more believable reasons which indicate that café is really well accepted by the clients. In addition, I would rather like to get more detail information about census the manager mentioned. In order to persuade us that the declined percentage of the under ten age children would influence the sale of children’s book. |
