There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."
What are the definition and the benefit of law? I ask myself immediately when I catch the glimpse of this issue. In my point of view, law is a system created by the government to regulate the behavior of the whole citizen and guarantee the society calm and orderly. Any country without laws must be in a mass. However, for the limit of intellect of human beings, there are just laws also unjust laws existed in one country, so it is our responsibility for every individual in the society to obey just laws and disobey and resist unjust laws as well.
First and foremost, what are just laws and unjust laws? What is the difference between them? Insofar my experience, the just laws must maintain the majority of the society and have no any discrimination to any races, while unjust laws are created in the purpose of bringing profit to only a small part of the society. What we should do is differentiate the two types of laws. Then it is easier for us to treat the just laws for we just need to obey them, while it is more difficult to treat the unjust laws for we must have the awareness that they are unjust laws and the courage to disobey even resist them.
In the American history, there are some laws published which showing the discrimination to the Blacks in America; these law did not admit the blacks are the legitimate citizens in America and considered the blacks as inferior race. These laws are definitely unjust in the eyes of our contemporary persons, but in the background of that time, the majority of the people thought these laws were just. Then for the purpose of surviving in this land, the Blacks had to take action, and for the health development of the society, some White people began resisting these laws and proposed to give the blacks the right equal status in the society. Maybe you are familiar with Martin Luther King, who devoted all his life to the process of fighting for the legitimate rights for the blacks. The American Constitution said that everyone is born to equal, but most people at that time ignore it. As the direct victims of these unjust laws, the blacks must have courage to disobey even resist them. And for some white people who were more reasonable must have the courage to admit these laws were unjust, and use the practical action to advocate the blacks. King is apparently the representative of these white people, although he was killed, his effort was not in vain. At last, the governments abrogated these laws, and admit the legitimate rights for the blacks. From this case in history, just laws can at last overcome the unjust laws, and that is the motivation for the whole society to move on in the right way. If American are still in the race enmity, it is impossible for it to become the strongest country in the world.
In sum up, we should not only obey just laws but more importantly disobey even resist unjust laws, for it is important no matter for individual or the whole society.
