Penn State University
College of Medicine
Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA
We invite applications for a pre-doctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. David Liu, at Penn State Cancer Institute, Penn State University College of Medicine, Hershey, PA 17033, USA. We study the mechanism of ATF5’s survival-promoting function that is specific to cancer cells. We use molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches to investigate how ATF5, a not-well-studied transcription factor, works, why survival of cancer cells but not normal cells depends on ATF5 function, and to what extent we can exploit this “vulnerability” of cancer cells for their specific elimination. Our goal is to elucidate the mechanism of ATF5’s cancer-specific cell survival function and to use this information for treatment of cancer (more information available at http://fred.psu.edu/ds/retrieve/fred/investigator/dxl39).
The successful pre-doctoral candidate must be highly motivated. Experience in gene regulation, protein interaction, and signal transduction studies would be preferable. The new recruit will be supported by a multiple-year grant and will have the option to be enrolled into the Cell and Molecular Biology PhD program at Penn State University College of Medicine. Candidates should submit a cover letter briefly describing prior research and future research/career goals, curriculum vitae, state-wide examination record, and names and contact information of three references to: David Liu, Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences, Penn State University College of Medicine, 500 University Drive, P.O. Box 850,
H109, Hershey, PA 17033, USA, or email: dliu@psu.edu. |
