184. Some students prefer to study alone. Others prefer to study with a group of students. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Today, there are a growing number of students who are in the search of the way to study efficiently. Some suggest study alone because of the freedom in time control and peaceful environment. However, as far as I am concerned, considerable though the benefits that studying alone enjoys are, they can not compete with the benefits that studying with a group of students brings about, when efficiency and emotional factors are taken into consideration.

First, studying with a group people can gain improvement more quickly than studying alone. A typical study group has to involve some interaction between the group members. The interaction can be the exchange of ideas among the individuals or the discussion between different thoughts. Every member of the group share his idea with the other members in the group, thus the one who does not come up a solution will get to know how to deal with it in a time-saving way. Those who share the ideas obtain some new solutions to the same problem and this is also considered valuable for them for they now are capable of solving the problem by other methods--they expand their horizon. As a result, the whole group benefits from such activities. To include such activities in the process of study, learning can be more efficient than thinking hard about one problem by oneself only to find that he can not manage it by his own.

From the emotional angle, it is also good for us to study with a group of students. One research shows that people become smarter and more open through communicating with others. Also, by discussing problems with other students, we may able to feel the sense of success after our thoughts are proved to be right and admitted by other group members. We gradually build up confidence and become more ease to deal with the problems that come up in the process of learning. Obviously, studying alone does not have the advantage mentioned above.

Making friends is also another merit of studying with a group of students. By studying together, we are able to get acquaintance with some excellent students and then go a step further to make friends with them. Surely friendship is one of the most valuable assets in life. In addition, even forming a studying group with those who we are already familiar with, studying together can also provide us a way to communicate with them, which enables us to understand each other better and helps us deepen the friendship. In fact, I first get to know my girl friend by asking her questions when we are studying in group in my department and we know each other better through studying together.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that studying in group is better than studying alone, although both of them have their own advantages.
