The speaker claims that some nonmainstream realms as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a critical role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science. I true believe what the speaker says to some great degree.

From my perspective, the reasons why such nonmainstream areas are popular to so large number of people are due to three aspects. Firstly, people are eager to have a much better knowledge of the future, especially the youth who are not certain in every aspects of his or life. Secondly, when they fail to reach some goal and feel frustrated, they would like to console themselves by making their own behavior reasonable and legal. Thirdly, someone want to seek for some external basis for their own goal. When they search for the answers they will certainly turn to the astrology, fortune-telling, etc, Other than the mainstream areas. Because the answers to questions mentioned above cannot give by the objective science. In the contrast, the nonmainstream areas can meet their need, since their answers need no reasonable basis. He may tell you that he learn it from the god.

As we know, the nonmainstream areas always used the most blurry answers to cheat you. If their description is just similar to what you think, then you may certainly regard what they say as truth. In fact, they always choose what you favor to say, even when they are say the disadvantage, you can consider as the advantage as long as you comprehend from another angle. We can take an interesting example as follow, a friend of my is in libra, I tell you the merits of people of libra are worth to trust,
regardless of difficulties, own patience and be cautious to everything. And their disadvantage are strict in people, hesitate to make a decision and unchangeable. She told me it is just like her. Then I respond to her that all the traits are the people of virgo.
Without denying, all the nonmainstream areas are act almost the same. Their answers are design to meet others needs. Therefore, more and more people begin to turn to them for consoling themselves.

Although we know it is wrong to believe these nonmainstream such as astrology, fortune-telling, etc. We cannot help to turning to them when we feel helpless. So the popularity of the nonmainstream areas is obvious. Even they are not reasonable and have little scientific basis.
