In this era of complicated affairs and quick pace of daily life dominating the modern society, it is natural that people get confused easily. People hesitate when asked to make decision in and out of their family. Many to think ,and little time to waste. As a result, role models are lightened as guidance or follow-me booklets to help people make decisions efficiently and effectively. However, independent thinking still plays a key role in many fields. In my opinion, they both remains irreplaceable and any absolute assertion that claims one is better than the other shall be suspicious.

First and foremost, copying experience of
bellwethers is the shortcut to success in many fields. No one succeeds for no reason. A widely accepted fact is that the winner must have some advantages over his( or her) competitor. These superiorities can be well organized plans or personal characters critical to a certain field or simply a series of good decisions at right time. By copying these advantages, the follower can grasp what matters and thus copy the success. An apt illustration involves the IT legend: Bill Gates and his Windows OS. When you are comfortably clicking icons on the desktop with a mouse, you may not realize from whom you really benefits. Apple first realize mouse and the Graphic User Interface – model of what you see in your screen nowadays, and Gates just copied them and then achieved his own legend.

On the other hand, independent thinking is more emphasized in fields where innovation is the first consideration. If we look back at the history of science, we will see every great theory breeds from independent thoughts. Without independent thoughts we might still believe that the Earth is center of the universe; Without independent thoughts we should never realize that every life in Earth is composed of cells- including ourselves; Without independent thoughts we could lose the chance to really understand our world and its movements. Copernicus , Newton, Schleiden and Schwann , they decided to jump out of the frames set up by preceding role models and finally they themselves were raised as models. Independent thinking is also offered special position in Art, literature and politics.

To sum up, copying experience of role models and independent thinking both have considerable advantages over the other in certain fields. The only assertion true about them is that a good balance between copying and independent thinking will benefit the whole society a lot.
