终于明白什么叫食之无味，什么叫呕血三升，什么叫夜不能寐。
虽然不知道我很一般的语言水平能否把我的意思完美的展示出来，不过现在圆满了，感谢各位斑斑帮我理了下思路。

提纲：（有点像做数学题,不知道ETS认不认）完全赞同
1.研究历史的主要作用有两个：发掘真相和传递思想
2.发掘真相展示了人从行为上的一致性
3.传递思想展示了人从思维上的一致性
4.既然两个主要作用都强调了一致性，自然证明了break down the illusion, 而两个主要作用都支持的benefit，自然也就是chief benefit.

Since the study of history in social lives expand and become more complex and diverse, it appears to most people that to comprehend its benefits is no longer a simple mission. To promote development of economy, technology, and society, as well as to reveal the connotations and truth of historical events, history should be regarded as the valued treasures of human beings. Considering its basic and fundamental function, though there are a lot of benefits of the study of history, the most important one should be eliminating the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other times in history.

Actually, for the sake of brilliant and outstanding future, human beings have been improving both in physical and mental respects in the process of evolution and development. Either involving in the process of evolution, or having already known of the outcomes and experiences of certain historical events, the living confused by the extrinsic trifles and would thus generate an illusion that they are unique in history. Such phenomenon mostly stems from the absence of understanding causes and essential issues of the historical incidents. In other words, realizing the pith of history--not merely where, but also why and how those affairs took place, human beings consequently could be able to discover the truth hidden behind one thing, and better acquaint themselves of the human nature, social trends, and objective rules. Revealing truth and passing on thoughts, the study of history, a straightforward approach to the point, eternal and immortal as it is, urges people to finding out the essential features of history, and thus helps them break down the hallucination.

Revealing truth, as one of the most pivotal functions of the study of history, provides clear cause-effect relationships of historical events and vivid images of the lives of people in the past to the ones alive. Data from the past must serve as our most vital evidence in the unavoidable quest to figure out why our complex species behaves as it does in societal settings. Through the research, people could compare their lives with their forebear's and thus find out that though there are a myriad of differences existing in living standard, world view, literature, characters, and so on, the fundamental behavior such as writing, singing, talking, breathing, never changed. Admittedly, distancing by times and misleading by the improving human beings committed to would hallucinate people that they and their ancestors are in two distinct groups. Nonetheless, history, the research of the past, could manifest irrefutable evidences to us, proving that the basic features, as well as the specific behaviors, are the same as our progenitors. In addition, things occurred in the past and in the current have inner coherence too. The financial crisis, for example, illustrates this complex and inherent relationship between two similar events. Though current economic recession is due to insufficient credit and unrestrained loan, both the essential issue, the scarcity of capital, and the solutions, enhancing the investment of government in infrastructures and stimulating private consumption, are the same as the one in the 1930s. Obviously, generally speaking, everything happening in the world today is a piece of long line that came out before. Hence, people could realize that they are neither alone nor unique in history.

Another important function, passing on thoughts, mainly emphasizes the spirit coherence of people. These ideologies, ethoses, academic theories, and traditions inherited from generation to generation influence people in many ways, as is demonstrated by the virtues of knights. In medieval era, knights were trained to practice courteous, honorable behavior and were asked to protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, as well as fight for the general welfare of all. The set of standards nowadays is still people living in modern epoch try to adhere to in their interactions with others. That inherent relationship in the spirit indicates that we are the same as people living in the past and future. Though many of us do not grant it orally, ethnically and mentally they do. Moreover, empirically, no real profound innovation and reformation could appear without the study of history. Changes are taking place every day, but the original power to keeping these constant improving stays unknown. Only through studying history can we grasp how things change; only through history can we begin to comprehend the factors that cause change; and only through history can we understand what elements of an institution or a society persist despite change. Those essential consciousnesses, as is self-evident, strongly reinforce the intrinsic coherence of people in different times; therefore, assist to eliminate the sense of differences.

In sum, the study of history helps people pursue the essential issue and cause of historical affairs, and then clearly points out the inherent affiliation of people in different eras. Though that study also contributes a lot to many other realms, as is mentioned above, since its most important two functions are all utilized to sustain the inner connection, we can safely draw a conclusion that its chief--or the basic and fundamental--benefit is break down the illusion that people are different in history.
