Although it is tempting to agree with the speaker’s implication that the study of history cannot provides direct solutions to present problems, however, the dramatic changes taking places in our lives do not make the experiences of history completely irrelevant. The history not only improves our researches and insights in fields of science, politic, and economic, but also warns us to avoid repeating mistakes made by our predecessors.

It is true that nowadays changes in every field of society are taking place in an unprecedented rate, so that people need to consistently studying new knowledge and technique as for adapting to this tendency of modern world. Take the computer techno ledge as an example. Ten years ago, few people in the world know the name of “computer”, but today, one will be regarded as exotic person if he or she even not knows this term. This techno ledge refers to almost every kind of jobs. Therefore, it is necessary for every applicant and employees to manage basic computer skills, so that one can better catch the step of social development. As for this case, there are bare knowledge can we get through learning old history. Likely the best way to promote our society is looking forward, creating new things and searching undeveloped knowledge.

Yet, focusing on the study of new things today does not means that we should or can ignore the learning about great human treatments of the past. As for our common people, studying about grand accomplishment of the past can help us get through the everyday business of living and lifting our spirit. One student can be inspired by the courage of history’s great explores, and which may profoundly affect his or her performance and attitude in school. Studying historical examples of brilliant characters can also provide omen significant motivation toward daily life. In the field of science, every bucketful achievement can not leave with former people’s efforts. History can points out us the inappropriateness of addressing certain issues, particularly political or economical ones. An apt illustration comes from the lesson of “Old China”. Hundred years ago, Chinese government decided to close the national “gate” refusing communicating and trading with any other country. As a result, the later collapse of Chinese defense entirely proves that this policy was totally a mistake. However, the present Chinese government positively claims for the policy of “reform and open to the world”, thanks to which China has such a flourishing situation. Besides, as for the urgent global financial crisis, I indeed believe that by learning the experience and lessons in the historical crises, experts will eventually find out a most effective way to meliorate today’s economical condition.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may inlay draw the conclusion that looking back for an understanding of the past is equally essential to the researching of contemporary ear and future. Only by studying new knowledge, can we guarantee not catch up with the world’s advancing steps; also, only by imparting the lessons and experiences from history, can we define what is new, and what is correct.
