Issue17:There are two kinds of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey the just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist the unjust laws.
Laws, body of official rules, govern the society and control the behavior of the social members. We people,do establish the laws and then obey them (短句在前 长的修饰在后比较符合阅读习惯), in order to establish justice, ensure the domestic tranquility, protect our security, and promote our awareness of welfare. However, some people, the author included(informed), assert that some laws are(去掉) unjust that(去掉) should be resisted. The laws, in my eyes, are the insurance of social stability, though not perfect in some sense. Hence, it’s our obligation to obey them and, even more importantly, to protect the deference of laws.
In history, admittedly, there were certain amount of resistances of(to) unjust laws promoted the progress of a society in the guide of justice. Scotland residents, for example, were required by the law to give the virgin firstnight of every bride to local nobilities. This law, totally considered inhumane and unjust, infuriated the Scotland people greatly so that they resisted it by wars against the legislators, and finally abolished it. The criminal laws, established by Nazi Germany, were also unjust in that they requested citizens to inform against whoever didn’t acclaimed ethnic elimination and absolutism, received a wide disobedience, which made a certain contribution to the subversion of Nazi. In the name of justice, those resistances(这里用动词形式 those resist 更好) against unjust laws do help the society move beyond discord to reconciliation.
Laws today, however, can’t be mentioned to the same breath with those unjust ones above any longer. (这句读不懂)Unlike the laws in the past, which are at service of governing class, sacrificing the interests, even lives of the masses, laws today are established through a chain of much more formal and complex approaches, aiming at providing for citizens’ well-being and national prosperity. The constitution of America, for example, should be approved by both the House and Senate.||(45 minutes)By regulating behaviors of individuals, groups, enterprises, and the governments in a just way, laws today do help ensure the domestic and international tranquility as we expect. Thus, there’s no doubt that we are incumbent to obey the laws.
As for the laws with flaws,or so-called unjust laws,we can take a legal way to amend rather than to disobey them considering the infeasibility of giving a explicit line between just and unjust laws.Since individuals differ from the levels of educations, religious belief, and the value system, there’s little possibility to establish a standard to tell which laws are just and others are not.Consider abortion ,one of the most controversial issues today. Some people, who believe the pregnant mothers don’t have the freedom to deprive fants of life, regard the law allows abortion as unjust, while someone else, who argue that life comes into being only after birth, think it just any way.Different people may draw different conclusions from a same law about whether it’s just or not.
What’s more, chaos and anarchy may sterm from the permission of disobedience to unjust laws that are purely judged in personal views. As we all know, laws of the US command cars drive on the right while in the UK,laws prescribe cars should run on the left.Imagine what would happen if a driver from Britain who regarded driving on the right wrong drove on an American road? It’s bond to cause a chaos in transportation. In addition,of what kind deference will the laws possess if disobedience to laws considered unjust is allowed?
Not omnipotent is mankind ,neither are the laws they established.Laws do have flaws more or less. So we should devote signifficant attention to make the laws flexible in order to exert functions in this rapid changing society. (almost 100 minutes)
