It's better to use own knowledge and experience to solve question, or ask other people for advice? (08.5.31)
Have you ever felt frustrated with a hard calculus question? Have you ever experienced confusion to choose a job offer? Have you ever been sleepless because of the economic crisis? One of the hottest topics many people talk about now is that whether individual confronting a problem should ask others for help or solve it alone. Quite a few people are in favor of advice from others. They claim that the adviser is more experienced and knowledgeable in solving problems. However, after careful consideration, I still reckon that people should depend on themselves to deal with problems.
First of all, by handling problems independently, people can factually understand their own capability and potential. Individuals, who are successful in career, must be those that actually know about themselves. At the age of 20, for instance, Van Gogh became a promising clerk in an art dealer earning more than his father. But he did not think it was the right career for him, and then left his position and tried other vocations. After being a supply teacher, a missionary and a seller in a bookshop, Van Gogh took up artist as his career in his 27 and devoted himself to painting in his last 10 years. If Van Gogh followed others' advice still working in that art dealer, the world would miss an arts master.
Moreover, the process of solving problems alone itself, not the result, makes a person determined and independent. An adviser can provide an effective solution. Following this idea, a person might achieve his goal without much effort, but lose the chance of thinking. Take Bill Gate for example. In his college days, people were sure that a Harvard degree equalized a success. But Bill himself made an astonishing choice to leave Harvard. Then he was dedicated to computer program and run his own company, which now is the well-known firm---Microsoft. The ability of thinking alone helps Bill Gate to be a decided and reliable leader.
Finally, individuals can learn useful skill and new knowledge through dealing with problems independently. Just as Tom Hanks said in ‘Philadelphia': “Every problem has a solution ”, each solution also brings new and practical experience. One is unable to understand the solution comprehensively unless the idea comes from his/her own brain. No matter how worried and anxious parents are, they could not take their children's position in the chemistry class and finish the midterm test. Only by thinking and answering alone can the children truly learn the knowledge of chemistry.
From what has been discussed above, we can reasonably reach the conclusion that people should treat with problems via their own abilities and efforts. It just is a joke that a person want to succeed but always depend on advice from others.
