When they travel to a new place, they usually visit the local museums first. I can totally understand their choice, because museums are also my first choice when I travel around. My reasons are below.

First of all, I think museums can represent the local history and culture. Each country or city has its own history which makes it different from others. May be this is the mainly reason why people travel to here. People tend to discovery something they are not familiar with. I remember the first time I went to Beijing, the capital of our country. The city is amazing not only for its highly developed technology but also for its glorious history. The first place I visited is China history museums, according to the explanation of the guide, I learned a lot from this museum, I understand how this wonderful city has been set up and why it still prosperous after such along history. Also, I knew the live tradition of local people, and how this tradition was formed. I really learned a lot from the museum, it does me a great favor to know of Beijing. The next few days I traveled several other museums and places of interest, with the knowledge I had learned from the museums, it really likes I am the part of the city.

Furthermore, I think usually people do not stay at the travel place for a long time. For a short period of travel, we usually stay only 2-3 days, that is not long enough for us the travel all around the corners of the place, so the museums are the best choice.
