The author, in this argument, suggests researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women. To solidify this suggestion, the arguer cites a new report that men and women experience pain differently. Moreover, the author also points out the findings of a study that with the same dosage of kappa opioids, the 20 women reported feeling much less pain than the 28 men, and the easing of pain lasted remarkably longer in women. The presumed recommendation, however, is unwarranted and hasty.
First and foremost, given information in the study itself is incomplete and inexact. In the case of wisdom teeth extraction with the same dosage of kappa opioids, the reaction of the women seemed to prove that kappa opioids is much more effective to them than to the men. Nevertheless, it did not cover the age, weight and other key elements, which are decisive in the effect of the painkiller.
In addition, the findings in the study can not apply to other pain medication. It is premature or even dangerous to suggest kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required, just owing to superficial success in one case. It is equally cursory to prescribe other kinds of pain medication for men due to the same reason.
Finally, huge difference of responses between the engaged man and women in one research can not verify that all medications should be reevaluated on men versus women as to the effects. Since kappa opioids is just one kind of painkillers and medications range widely in infinite functions. The effect of medications needs reevaluated and thus improving, but it should not only based on sexual difference and upon one particular case.
In sum, the conclusion reached in the argument is hasty and misleading. To make it more convincing, the author should root out other variables which can probably have certain impacts on the findings of the effect of kappa opioids. To better evaluate its deduction, the author ought to reduce the potential circumstances into teeth pain or similar pains. Otherwise, it is groundless and even ridiculous to enlarge the objects into all medications far beyond painkillers.
