In this argument the author comes to the conclusion that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. To justify this claim, the author points out that the first group patients who took antibiotics regularly through their treatment recuperate 40 percent quicker. The author also cites that the patients’ recuperation time in the second group which are given sugar pills was not significantly reduced. Close scrutiny of each of these facts, however, reveals that none of them lend credible support to the argument.

To begin with, Doctors suspected that secondary infection may prevent some patients from healing quickly after sever muscle strain. However, the author fails to rule out that the patients who were studied are all with secondary infections. It is possible that the patients in this study may not be with secondary infections. If so, the conclusion that secondary infections may prevent patients from healing quickly after sever muscle strain based on this study is not persuasive.

Even if all the patients in the study were with secondary infections, the conclusion based on the study also unconvinces me. The study must be showed to be reliable before I can accept conclusion the author reaches based upon it. However, the validity of the study is doubtful. Lacking information about patients in this study, it is impossible to access the validity of the results. For example, it is possible that the first group patients are all teenagers, and the patients in the second group are all old men. It is also possible that the first group patients are all men, and the second group patients are all women. It is even possible that the first group people are healthier than the second group. Such possibilities make it hard to conclude the results of the study. Furthermore, the doctors in the two groups are different, so that it is possible that Dr. Newland who are the first group’s doctor are better at healing the patients who are with sever muscle strain. Without evidence of the study’s reliability, it is impossible to draw any firm conclusion based on the study.

Finally, whether antibiotics are fit for all patients with muscle strain is still open to doubt, for it may have negative effect on some patients, such as allergy. Thus, the author’s failure to take into account the antibiotics’ side effects renders the conclusion highly suspect.

To sum up, this arguer fails to substantiate its claim that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment, because the evidences cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer would have to provide more information. Therefore, if the argument had included the given factors discussed above, it would have been more thorough and logically acceptable.
