在这里我单独来开一贴，目的有两个：

1、拿出自己的愚见和一点点对AW的积累，帮想重判的同学参谋一下习作到底有没有通过复议可以在分数上提升的空间。同时如果还能回忆起来，最好把考试时候的issue提纲也留下。虽然对于低分档的作文主要应该针对语法、文法等分析，但是如果跑题了，那也就是0分了。

2、过去的案例都太少了，根本构不成统计效果，这次开贴，广收0906G AW复议信息。在大家互助的同时，让我们也为后来人留下一些值得参考的东西。



想要重判但是没有把握的同学，可以找和实际考试时候水平相近的1A+1I贴上来，我斗胆去看一下有没有值得复议的空间

注意，空口去说该不该复议没啥好的，得见到实物之后才好说

这里的言论仅代表我个人的见解，绝对非官方

我只是给个人观点，具体该咋做，当然还是要各位自己拿主意

Merely based on unfounded assumption and dubious evidence, the arguer draws a conclusion that Mira Vista College (MV) should follow the nearby Green Mountain College's (GM) measure of providing more business courses and more job counselors to ensure the graduates' job. To substantiate his conclusion, the arguer indicates the different situation in job offer between MV College and GM College to prove the measure taken in GM is useful. At first glance, it seems somewhat convincing, but close scrutiny reveals that it contains several logical flaws.

To begin with, there is some suspect in the evidence that the arguer used to prove GM's job offer situation is better than MV's. First, there is no amount of the graduates of the two colleges. Perhaps GM's graduates per year are much fewer than MV's. Thus of course MV's students will come with a bigger challenge in engaging. Or perhaps the jobs of GM's graduates are not as good as MV's, and they just have no choice so have to work with complaint inside their heart. Meanwhile, three months is too short to show that MV's job is less. Perhaps after several weeks, there will be more MV's students who will get job offer. Furthermore, the arguer claims that many MV's graduates were not employed in their major field of study. Yet it is entirely possible that they do not want work in their former major field but not because they cannot find the jobs in it. Lacking sufficient evidence to show the situation of the two colleges, I probably cannot pursue the arguer.

What is more, even if GM College is better in job engaging, does it contributed to their more business courses and more job counselors? Experience tells us that the employees concern more about the college's nameplate, the students' ability, the relationship with the college, and so forth. Perhaps GM College is a business school, thus of course it has more business courses. Without proving this question, the arguer cannot persuasive me that it was the business courses and job counselors that help the graduates a lot.

Thirdly, even if it was the more business courses and job counselors that make GM College better at job hiring, it does not mean that the same measure could make sense at MV College. First, these two colleges may be located in two different places, and thus they would have different condition. Perhaps the GM College is in the area of higher developed while MV is located in a depressed region. Thus the method working with GM College may be not fit for MV College.

Finally, there is no evidence to prove the computer technology is required from the beginning to the end. Moreover, as I see, the ability is what the hirer concern most. Yet it is hard to make a breakthrough in a short time. Maybe it will be more convincing if the arguer should provide more details of what the new course will bring and whether the counselors are experience enough.

To sum up, the arguer fails to persuasive me that his recommence of importing more business course and job counselors is efficient. To substantiate his recommence, the arguer would have to prove the MV College is necessary to change first. Additionally, he also would have to provide more details to show that method can do help the students in job hiring. Therefore, if the arguer had given this evidence, his recommence would have been more thorough and logically acceptable.

Whether, you may wonder, looking back of the past could give us guidance for living in this novel and complex society. This question would lead to a variety of issues about technology, science, society, individual improvement, and so forth. On balance, in my point of view, the study of the past will take us valuable means of guiding ourselves in activity, behavior, psychology, and individual value, although the globe today changes more and more quickly.

To begin with, there is no denying that the today’s society is filled with novel and complex things all the time and people have to be ready to change with the situation. More and more appearance of new technology not only brings us higher efficiency but also need us to learn much more than before. Once a new theory comes out, firstly it needs a period of time to examine it in practice. After the conceding of fraction scientists or researchers, it also needs some time to citizens to study and understand. Meanwhile, the changeable world gives us too much information to receive every day in every field. Things we have to concerned are far more than that before. And all of these mentioned above, could be not taken by research or study the history.

Howbeit, the need of concerning more of the world does not mean we can ignore the study and research of the past. On the contrary, experience tells us that better understand of the formers’ research, no matter successful or failure would save us more time during the discovery. Lending reference to this notion is the invention of James Watt, whose improvements of steam engine were fundamental to the changes of the Industrial Revolution in both Kingdom of Great Britain and the world. The improvements, seen as the greatest breakthrough during that time, actually were based on the rudiment which has been existed that time. Another instance is the Wright Brothers, two Americans who generally credited with inventing and build the world’s first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered, and sustained heavier-than-air human flight. However, without their formers’ research and the sketch of so called “aerocraft” that time, they would have to spend more hard effort and even may be unsuccessful.

Finally, understanding the rules of how the things changed could leave us more profit, no matter in the level of nation and society or the individual. To every country, Adolf Hitler is the most memorable instance of failure. Close study and scrutiny reveals that any willing want to control the human’s freedom and liberty is impossible. And I suspect no leader today would make the mistakes as him. To the individual, the study of big man’s gain and loss will also make us more efficient. Such as most business schools in the world, as the most famous one Harvard Business School, teach in a way of case by case. They study how to make the judgment in the key time by use the reference of the successful or failure companies.

To sum up, I agree with the statement that such a society today can be not complex and novel any more. People would have to adopt themselves in the sea every minute. However, I will not pursue the author’s claim that it is no use to understand of the past. On the contrary, if cannot be any more, I actually it is entirely necessary to learn and study the history and of course, it will guide and direct us.

OPIC: ISSUE88 - "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."
Does technology influence social customs and ethics and determine them as well, as the speaker asserts? I concede that technology--viewed as a basic principle of social change by some sociologists for its obvious importance to human cultural and social evolution---does create a great influence on social customs and ethics, however, the speaker overstates that technologies actually determine social customs and ethics by overlooking some other factors such as art, history, and culture.

In today's world, we have seen an increasing influence of the development of technology on human daily life and many old traditions are being influenced and even changing all the time. One needs look no further than those advanced and convenient communication device. In the early days, the only way for people to communicate and connect with each other though a long distance is to write letterers with pen, which has been replaced--to a large extent--by the extraordinary developed internet and E-mail, phone, fax, etc. Consider education, thanks to the overwhelming mass media which transmits the most prevalent culture, custom, and ideals of our society, make the distant education possible and children today receive the education even at home rather than go to school as they used to. These tremendous changes reveal that human life--as well as the tradition and custom--is pole apart from past due to the development of technology.

Meanwhile, the development of technology has also made a great influence on human moral principles. For instance, once there was a long time in history in which women were not allowed to participate in the social activities due to the moral principle  maintain that it was the women's duty to stay at home and took care of the family no matter what capabilities she  possess. However, things changed after the rise of industrial-revolution and the highly improvement of technology level. Sharply increasing of the job vacancies provide a tremendous opportunity for women to work outside, some of them even achieve a high position in the government official and women become indispensable force of the society. In a word, the technology development--to some extent --does change human moral and ethic principles.


However great influence the technology has made on the customs and ethics, it’s an overstatement that technology determine two of them. In fact, technology is one of factors of shaping social customs, traditions and ethic principles. There're many determinant such as, history, culture, value and ideas all play important role. For instance, the Chinese Spring Festival and American's Thanks Giving Days are not sourced from or changed by technology. When it comes to social ethics, there’re some fundamental, inherent factors--rooted in our human nature--which can never be changed and remain constant over the course of history regardless of the development of technology. On the contrary, customs or ethics sometimes in turn, control and fetter the technology. Consider the research on human cloning, which is still a great controversial issue for its unethical and immoral in killing human embryo, the unsafe process and the unpredictable consequences of having deformed clones.

To sum up, from the above discussion, we can safely conclude that although to a large extent, technology influence greatly on our social customs and ethic principles, we should also notice that some customs and ethics would be inherited from one generation to another--which never changed no matter to what extent technology developed.

Does the experience in the past meaninglessbecause the modern society is much more complex than the past? The speaker tendsto believe so, but I really suspect it. Although it is true that numerousproblems we encounter today have not existed before, there are also variousproblems have been existing since the beginning of the human history, and evensome challenges are new, it does not indicate that the historic experiencecannot offer any help. To illustrate this issue, I would like to demonstrate itin three parts: personal, academic and social.

At the personal level, it is true that somedetail or concrete problems we meet are totally different from our predecessorsdid, such as the more complex social relationship, more fierce competition andeven the more choices and multiple cultures will confuse us. But there arestill many issues eternal regardless of the time and the development ofsociety. These confusions are mainly on the spiritual level. For example, wemay ask the meaning of the life, what the role we should play in the family andgroups, and how to deal with friendship. A very simple but lasting question isthat whether we should lend money to our friends? And the most representativeexample is the philosophic problem we bothered: where do the human come fromand is there a god, what will the world be when people die and do we have asoul to last forever? All these questions above do not change with the time andthe thinking and emotions of our predecessors can call up our resonance andgive us comfort as well.

At the academic level, without doubt, asthe development of technology and science, we have made significant progressand many theories in the past have been proved wrong and unwarranted. But doesit mean that the explorations in the past are worthless? Of course not! Thefirst thing we have to bear is that we walk on the road paved by our ancestors.The process of researching involves studying, suspecting, exploring and correcting.If Einstein had not learned classic physics well, how could he discover itsinvalidity? Although the past theories are not perfect and even contain severemistakes, they are the fundamental of today's study. No one can achieve abreakthrough without firm base. Just like the expression of Newton: If I haveseen further it is by standing on the shoulders of grants.

When it comes to the social challenges,perhaps the situation can be quite different. Admittedly, numerous problems inthe contemporary society have never happened before. For example, with thedevelopment of technology, our human is becoming more and more powerful but westill have difficulties in blending with the nature: the global warming,thinner ozone, extinction of spices. And other problems like the increasingpopulation, shortage of natural resources also new in the today society.However, studying history is still helpful in some issues, and the most typicalone is the problems on economy. As the financial crisis attacked the world,people tend to compare it with the previous crisis such as the greatdepression, Internet bubble or Asian crisis in 1997. Although today's turmoilwas caused by the abusing of derivative instruments but we still can find outuseful the experience to consult. And also, studying history helps us to findregularity of the development of a thing, and this principle is widely adoptedas we emphasize the importance of statistics and econometrics, upon which wepredict and make policy.

To sum up, although modern life is morecomplicated, the experience in the past is still meaningful, either becausesome problems do not change or some can refer to the past.

To justify this conclusion, the author notes that the 90% ofgraduates in Green Mountain College which have more business courses and jobcounselors find jobs last year, while 70% Mria graduates who want to work findjobs within three months after graduating. And the president also mentions thatonly half of them work in their major fields. However, in several respects theevidence provided by the presidents lends little support for therecommendations.

To begin with, the president is too hastyto draw conclusion merely relying on the uncompleted statistics. Since thepresident only offer the employment rate within three months after graduating,it is entirely possible that after three month the rest 30% students receivedoffers from perspective employers. Without accounting for this possibility, thepresident cannot claim that their graduates encountered difficulties whenhurting the jobs.

Secondly, even it is true that graduatefrom Green Mountain can easier to be employed, the assumption that their stringcompetitive is attributable to the business course and more counselors. Lackingclear evidence, there are various alternative explanation for it. Perhaps themajors in Green Mountain are popular and make it easier to find a job, forexample, accounting, nursing, laws. In contrast, the majors in Mria are not sopopular in professional fields such as art, music and theater. Or perhaps GreenMountain has higher reputation which makes employers believe their graduatesare more competitive than others. Each scenario above undermines thepresident's assumption and casts doubt on the conclusion.

Moreover, the presidents relies on theassumption that not working in own major fields means a disadvantage of findingjobs. Yet there is no evidence to substantiate. It is also likely that studentsin Mria choose major as their interest and do not want to work in the relativearea. And some disciplines such as literature, philosophy and history, it isreasonable if their graduates work as reporters, editors and even secretaries.

In addition, even assuming graduates inMria really cannot find jobs smoothly, it does not indicate that they shouldprovide more business and computer courses and hire more counselors. First ofall, additional computer courses are ungrounded. Second, perhaps Mria hasprovides sufficient business courses, but the problem is that the quality ofthem is poor. Finally, may it is the ineffectiveness of counselors should takeresponsibility rather the number of it.

In sum, the argument contains several logicflaws and the president cannot convince me to accept it. To bolster thisconclusion, the president should prove the business courses and more counselorsresulted in the success of job hunting. To better assess this recommendation, thepresident should provide ultimate statistics and I would like to know moreinformation about these two colleges including department, offered programs andprestige and so on.

"Mayor Brown was recently re-elected by a clear majority of 52 percent of Monroetown's voters. Her re-election, however, does not show that most people in our town favored Mayor Brown's proposal for tax reduction over that of her opponent, Mr. Greene, who proposed raising taxes to improve education. It has been shown that voters nationwide tend to re-elect people already in office, regardless of candidates' proposals. In fact, a local survey after the election showed most people in Monroetown disagreed with Mayor Brown's proposal. Clearly most people in Monroetown favor improving education and therefore approve of Mr. Greene's proposal despite the fact that they did not vote for him."

In the passage above, the auguer stated that, despite citizens in Monroetown did not vote for Mr.Greene in the recent election, they were just in favor of the idea of improving local education which was proposed by him, and in the aspect of raising taxes for education they just did not like Mayor Brown's proposal much. Meanwhile, a trail of statistic figures as well as some evidences have been shown to substantiate his ideas. However, the auguer's statement actually does not hold when taking his deduction process into serious consideration, for some crucial factors have been neglected as well as fallacious correlations have been established between some irrelevant incidents.

First of all, the fact that voters nationwide tend to re-elect people already in office regardless of candidates' proposals needs more substantiations to forge a strong evidence. For the authority of such investigations have been unknown, remaining us with questions such as how many people were there involved in the survey, were they randomly picked or deliberately selected, or whether the survey had been conducted by a third party in a dispassionate way. Without figuring out these factors, there is such possibility, that although the survey involved people from all over the country, the absolute amount of the participants remained quite small, making such investigation quite unconvincing; or the participants in the survey were all housewives or the retired ones who tend to pay less attention to contemporary politics so that they just kept voting for those already in office as a means of convenience; or such survey had been conducted by Mr.Greene's party, or the questions had been established in a way to induce the participants getting an expected answer such that the result actually was a biased one. All these factors above harass the authority of the survey severely.

Recessively, even if the survey had been conducted scientifically and dispassionately, whether it was able to evince it was the case happened in Monroetown still has to be discovered. For such result, at any rate, is a stochastic conclusion, and such conclusion is only a general situation of the whole country, which indubitably cannot represent every unique area of the nation. It is self evident that an average score of "good" does not equal to everyone is good, and for the survey it is just the same case. People in Monroetown, a place where the sense of politics may be extremely sensitive according to the city's function as capital of a state, may just be the exception from a generally blind re-electing for those already in power.

Furthermore, the local survey brought about by the auguer still cannot provide much evidence to prop his ideas. Apart from what I have stated above about the survey's problem, such as the quantity or the general class of the participants and the characteristics about the investigator as well as the poll itself, there are still some dubious problems lie in. Firstly, the survey had been conducted at a time "after the election", which indicates Mayor Brown had brought her policies into use for a period. And during this period people may just discover problems within such policies, or even Mayor Brown's proposal had deviated from what she used to promise. Thus the objection of the people should not be equaled to as they disagreed with the mayor's idea initially.

Even more, even if most people in Monroetown at the very beginning supported for improving education, it does not evince they approved Mr.Greene's proposal. Enhancing education can be in various forms, not exclusively the way of increasing taxes. Without figuring out all alternatives such as integrating the resources at hand and fostering more effective teachers, simply to raise a tax is just irresponsible. The citizens in Monroetown can't be obtuse at this point, therefor whether they accepted the idea of raising taxes remained quite a factor X.

Last but not least, given the case they supported for raising a tax to better enhance education, whether then they just supported for Mr.Greene still needs pondering. The direction of public opinion is a culmination of multiple factors, so policy in other aspects rather than education by Mr.Greene had to be reckoned with, too. Without figuring out this point, perhaps it was just Mr.Greene's other notorious proposals, such as a worse attitude towards perquisites to the poor and the retired class or an ambiguous attitude on banning morphines and opiums only to create more taxes to fill up the hole, that has hampered him from being elected by the people.

In conclusion, the auguer failed to establish his ideas soundly, for he neglected many crucial factors and misused the figures and evidences he got. Were he to improve his final result better, he had to make clear about what indeed was the preference of the local people, whether they supported for raising taxes as well as supporting for education, and if there are better alternatives to achieve a comprehensive victory. Then after all these have been accomplished can his assertion be tenable.

TOPIC: ARGUMENT29 - When Ida McAllister ran for mayor of Lake City four years ago, she failed to win even 30 percent of the vote. But since then, McAllister has made public her commitment to environmental causes. She would be wise, therefore, to announce her intention to close all Lake City parks to automobile traffic, thus following the example of the former mayor of Plainsville, Alecia Yu . On the recommendation of a small group of concerned citizens, Mayor Yu prohibited automobile traffic in all Plainsville parks, and therefore was credited with solving the pollution problem and improving the quality of life in Plainsville. This action would have great appeal to the citizens of Lake City, most of whom participate in the community's recycling program, and would guarantee McAllister's success in her current quest to be Lake City's new mayor.

However, the auguer's statement actually does not hold when taking his deduction process into serious consideration, for some crucial factors have been neglected as well as fallacious correlations have been established between some irrelevant incidents.

First of all, the successful election of the former mayor of Plainsville may not be resulted from his proposal of closing all parks to automobiles. In fact, a victory in election is a culmination of multiple factors, and the mayor's other policies, such as his attitude towards the perquisite of the retired class and the poor, or the rate of raising taxes, or effort on construction on the local economy and education levels, all agregate together to push for his final success. The situation between Plainsville and Lake City may actually be in sharp contrary, where the parks in Plainsville are all located at the suburbs of the city, while those in Lake City infelicitously all lie in downtown, some of which may even be a crossroad of a busy traffic, making it far more possible to make such ban order in Plainsville than in Lake City.

Yet we are still untold about if the citizens in Plainsville are really that concentrated on the issue of environment protection, even if the auguer has emphasized with the fact that most of the citizens in Lake City has participated in the community's recycling program. For such recycling program may be a forced policy one has to follow, or it was simply because of the concatenated benefits, such as tax returned or special service by some government-appointed cleaning companies per month if joining in such program, that has attracted the citizens doing so, not the awareness of environmental protection itself. Considering this, exhaustively figuring out an idea only to jam all vehecles from a crossroad and imagining by doing so can win a election from those citizens actually lukewarm in environmental condition just seems too ridiculous.

Moreover, given the case that most of the citizens in Lake City ponder more on environmental causes, and by proposing more ideas on such issue would indeed help McAllister win more people, to announce her intention to close all Lake City parks still may not be an economic idea. To protect the environment there are various ways, and one should ponder the situation comprehensively before deciding which ultimately is the optimum solution. She may be able to reduce traffic pollution simply by adjusting oil or car taxes, and more propagandas on planting more trees and flowers all around the city, which not only shall enhance the general environmental condition of Lake City, but its ostentational beauty as well, just seems more attractive by commonsense.

Last but not least, even if such commitments in environmental causes indeed appealed much to the citizens of Lake City, it is still far from a "guaranteed success" proposed by the auguer. Just as what I have stated above, a political success is a result of different aspects, and a simple view of environment cannot provider her other disadvantages be covered. Moreover, her rival's policies has to be reckoned with, too. Thus said the great philosopher Montesquieu, and it is the case that people look, dress and act reflect much about their attitudes and interests, and they are indeed clues we can follow to pursue for a panoramic view of a society. Meanwhile, we should also notice, that sometimes there may be deviating phenomenon causing a little bit noise, which may harass the result at a certain level, and if we completely convict to such idea, maybe it is just us that has involved in such dilemma of misinterpretation.

Everyone has his own ideas, and there is no doubt that their choices may reveal how they think in featured matters. We may see, a set of pure green shirts of the 18th century's South African Boers directly reflected a devotion or even fervor towards mother nature, while an ocean of blue uniform in the past Soviet Union just showed a class of workers as well as their somewhat rigid passion of revolutionary production, and a delicate suite of lustrous helmet and brigandine in the 19th century's Japan simply reflected the samurai's unshakable spirit of bushido and loyalty towards their inviolable emperor. All these factors directly aggregate to give us evidences about their thoughts, hence leading us to know better about a society. Minds and actions, the two brothers never go apart too long, and we only need to find one of them and simply ask him "where is your brother now", and the other one shall soon be discovered.

Furthermore, people's complexion not only showed about a societ's ideas and values, but its history and culture as well. "Waterloo" in French now has become a symbol of fiasco, where such idiom in Germany turns to "Canosa". People prefer to say so, and it is only because the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte met his doom in Waterloo while the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II met his shame by the Pope in Canosa. Such reflection from idioms or puns of a vernacular language is just like a vault storing all kinds of history and culture of that society within. What we need to do is only to fetch them and investigate carefully, so that most parts of such society's characteristics shall be uncovered.

Even more, we can see how such tides of people's look, dress and act are even able to maneuver a society's custom, ideas or even values. The Iranian people in the middle of 20th century have long been suited for their customary garments and their poor everyday lives as well as their daily behavior firmly according to the Coran. When oil was discovered in Persian Gulf and as a result their country was suddenly enriched, the whole traditional Iran was modernized to every inch of its soil. But violation of such innured custom of the people outraged many traditional practitioners, and infortuitously a revolution broke out and the Pahlavi House was then overthrown only to restore Iran back to its "normal status". Thus we shall see a simple look or dress may even dominate the rise and fall of a power, or even a civilization. To this point, such big environment of each individual's behavior just convoluted together and formed a final equilibrium, wich firmly holds up a unique society.

It is fact that we may see much about a society from people's look, dress and act, and such factors even contribute to such society itself. However, we should also recognize that, sometimes this method may also lose its magic. A faddish lip-shaped hectic sofa by Salvador Dali indeed revealed his very own attitudes and interests, but we can't see much about any Spanish common ideas or value lie within. Nor can Marcel Duchamp's recreational "Fountain" signify something significant for us to reveal what French society actually is. Moreover, the details of a society's ideology may also be omitted, for such research on people's ostentational characteristics may simply flit through many trivial but important facts. Only looking by overt features of the conventenal garments of the Saudi Arabian people, one may just not be able to know how fashionable and flexible they are.

In conclusion, the way people look, dress, and act indeed reveals much about their attitudes and interests, and these factors even have an impact on the form of a unique society itself. But we cannot rely exclusively on this very method to discover a total unfamiliar society, for in this way what we get may just be a red herring.

All educators are saying that children determine the destiny of a society , along with the current trends that more and more emphasis is imposed on the social capabilities such as cooperation and teamwork spirits . However , from my personal perspective , how children are socialized is not the only or the most important quality contributing to a better society .

Before any final conclusion , we need to define the concept of "socialization" . Socialization , I believe , is one's capability to communiate with others , the skills to negotiate and cooperate with competitors and coworkers in oder to get what they realy want successfully .At a higher level , it is one's capability to understand the society in a thorough insight .
In this sense , if children are well socialized at a vey early age , they can fit in the surroundings better and more quickly , as well as live more comfortably . Well-socialized children can be more other-oriented and less self-centered .They can know very well how to learn from the
wonderful ideas and thinking patterns from other people , and afetr this, how to ultilize them in a comprehensive way . Thus , the whole society can get a much more mutual and exhausive impetus in the well-being process . It is admitted that high level of socialization can benefit hte society in some way .

However , th edestiny off society is determined not only by the socialization of children, but also by other aspsects that relate to the overall condition of the society . The great saints told us that the one's happiness is decided by the emotional and spiritual power , rather than materials, so it is with the well-being of one society .A civilized and highly advanced society should be like this : people respect and tolerate each other ; they hold deep compassion to those bitter one and sensitivity to the human nature and suffering . And also , the situation of politics , art , especially
important , education , determine the how a society is like .

During education ,srudents need to be instilled with a value system and all knowledge they need to make their own decisions ; undue emphasis on the socialization is kind of amounting to compromising one's ideas and behaviours . I f the children are taught that they need to consider every other's opinions and feelings before any movement , their immuatual minds would convince themselves to give up without an overal agreement on their opinions . Actually , from my understanding ,for the purpose of a better future of a society
, children had better be taught to contribute themselves to what interest them most , and develop the ambition to exceed their current level and
never be torn down the opposed opinions . This is what children ,even adults need, to make their own in the world . Supposing a society of piles of well-socialized people having no dare to say no , it would a society full of mediocrity , let alone a better one .

Consider the facts now, we have to admit that many efforts have been made to well socialize children . Despite the current trends of one child in a family , thus lacking a playing partner , the process of socialization can be compensenate by many other forms . The information explosion has put chilkdren in the sea of information and provided them enough to make out what they really want , and theyhave become more independent in decision making . In schools , numerous fraternities and sisterhoods and many other club activities ,which are all voluntarily formed by children merly

without the guide of parents and teachers , have greatly improved children to be
more capable and promising societal people . The emerge of more and more young elites in many aspects, showing a matural social tactic and personality, even more outstanding than that of many adults. These facts remind us that even without bothering ourselves , our children have been excellent enough to bring about a better society .

Just like the merits shown by the Chinese teenagers during the accurence of the most horrible earthquake this year in Sichuang Province ,May 12th, the quality of bravery , persistence , respect to life and the solid belief of nevering giving up even in the verge of death , I believe, some adults can stop worrying about the' spoiled generation' or the 'beaten generation' , because ,they can definitely promise a better society .

The argument seems well-presented and logically persuasive at first glance ,by citing the higher consumption of fish in East Meria (EM)and less visits to doctors  for treatment of colds , the argument comes to the conclusion that people in Weat Meria (WM) should take Ichthaid (I) which is mainly comprised of fish oil  so that the absences there can be effectively decreased . However , after a careful reexamination , there are so many logical flaws and so vague discriptions  that  the argument is unconvincing .

First of all , the  argument assumes that less visits to doctors for colds amounts to less times of getting colds , however ,this assumption lacks sufficient and necessary evidence to prove itself . It is entirely possible that people in EW get colds as frequently as people in WM do , but they tend to take some medicions and get some rests on their own rather than resort to doctors because  the fees for treatment are quite high  in EM . And the sequent flaw of the argument is that it hastily sets up a cause and effect relationship between the higher fish consumption and less times of geting cold . Without any scientific research to indicate the effect of fish in preventing cold , we can not justifiably trust the assumption . It is entirely possible that people in EM get cold less frequently no matter they eat a lot of fish or not  , due to the milder and more pleasant climate there and less sharp changes in temperatures . For better or for worse , there are so many alternatives left  out of consideration that the assumption is unwarranted .

Another obvious fallacy the argument suffers from is that I is not necessarily effective in preventing people in WM from getting cold , even assuming that fish is really helpful in cold -prevention  .As the argument claims itself that I is derived from fish oil ,however , there is no scientific research or analysis  proving that the effectivenss of fish in preventing cold is attributable to fish oil completely .Maybe it is some other materials contained in fish that work most  in this cold-prevention .Moreover , even assuming fish oil does work well ,  we should consider the process of fish-oil-deprivation , maybe the effective materials in fish oil get destroyed and then losing the initial power to prevent cold .Afterall , fish and fish oil , as well as fish and Ichthaid , are completely  different things .

Last but not least , there is no sufficient evidence to prove that the daily use of I can effectively diminish the absences .Even though getting cold is the most frequent reason for workers' absenteesm , common sense informs us that the credibility of this reason need to be carefully check . Maybe it is just because getting cold is the easiest excuse for people to get rid of their work and in fact they do not get cold at all . In a word , we can not just conclude from the reports of workers to judge the frequency of getting colds .

In sum , the argument merely skecthes the very surface of some information without any further evaluation and then follows a misleading line of reasoning , thus the conclusion is definitely logically deficient . If the argument had included more valid information about the real frequency of people in EM getting cold and the scientific relationship between eating fish and less colds , it would have been greatly improved .

There is purely objective observation that is immune to  subjective  anticipations and desires of the observers , however , there are also observations that do not fit the true facts , because they are determined by the limits of personal  understanding and even the knowledge of the entire human race .

It is human nature to explore the unkown  worlds and aspects , in this case , people are just curious about the facts  whithout any sense of utilitarianism . They do not intend to prove or disprove something , instead , they just observe objects physically existing around them with a pure attitude to gain physically objective sketches of the objects .However , even the most fixed things can play tricks . For instance  , for my part , in the geometry class , when we are asked to observe a cylinder set on the platform , something interesting happens  and the result can not be attributable to our objective or subjective purposes at all . The cylinder appears to be a circle if observed from the very top of it ; a rectangle if oberved from the horizontal side  . SO some times different results of observations are determined by the different angles that we observe things .

Apparently , I concede that some times people do observations really out of some personal desires and expectations , except those observations for their own sakes .For example , one art critic who is specially in favor of paintings  of impressive genre , would probablely  underestimate even belittle the works by a realist painter , no matter the paintings are of value or not . In this case ,over subjective attitude of the observer has completely ruined the possible objective observations .When things go to the history , the monopoly of Terrioncentric Theory is a telling example of subjective observation . This theory is comletely determined by the religious belief that human beings were the center of the natural creatures thus the Earth should be the cnter of the Universe .Anyway , people always get blind if their internal emotions and desire control their minds .

Actually ,  I still believe that the existence of anything objective , and it is the understanding and conclusion derived from the obervation that is subjective .No matter how different or similar things are in people's eyes , there will be different conclusion after observation even though they are all objective themselves . However , due to the great discrepanies in understanding levels and  knowledge backgrounds even  horizons among different people , the understandings of one same object will vary significantly  . That is because during the process of understanding , when the object is projected into the mind of a person , he or she will shape the very object with his or her own language ,aesthetic sense and value ,as well as personal experience and characters .For example ,there are two completely different theories about the relation of time and space , which are seperately held by Newton and Einstein .I totally believe without any conservation and doubt that both of them were holding absolutely objective attitude and eyes when doing observations , however  , due to the deficiency of understanding in that specific age , Newton failed to come up with the theory that is more precise to describe the real truth .That is why I claim that the level of understandings of both individual and the entire human rave will  determine the so -called objectiveness .

However, there are still so many things that we can not explain untill now , such as the essence  of golden section , the newly-emerged theory about parallel universe . We can not understand them not to mention to disprove or prove their objectiveness . From my personal perspective , the innate objectiveness of thins around the world will never change , but the human knowledge will evolve as well as the physical tools or devices for observation , Thus , all observation with initial pure purpose will be much closer to the real facts as well as to the absolute objectiveness .

"Membership in Oak City's Civic Club-a club whose primary objective is to discuss local issues-should continue to be restricted to people who live in Oak City. People who work in Oak City but who live elsewhere cannot truly understand the business and politics of the city. It is important to restrict membership to city residents because only residents pay city taxes and therefore only residents understand how the money could best be used to improve the city. At any rate, restricting membership in this way is unlikely to disappoint many of the nonresidents employed in Oak City, since neighboring Elm City's Civic Club has always had an open membership policy, and only twenty-five nonresidents have joined Elm City's Club in the last ten years."

The argument is well-presented at first glance but logically deficient after a careful reexamination . By hastily assuming that those working in Oak CITY (OC ) but living elsewhere can not understand the issues about OC , as well as the situations in the neighboring Elm CIty (EM ) , the argument comes to the conclusion that the membership of a Civic club should be restricted in residents here  . The argument actually is replete with logical flaws and renders itself to be unconvincing .

The threshold problem of the argument is about the assumption that only tax payers can really understand the city issues .However , neither of the two assumption has any valid evidence to prove themselves .Actually , the tax payer of OC are not necessarily the local residents . It is entirely possible that the taxes from people living elsewhere but working in OC  take the most part in the taxes fund of the city , because there might be more business men from other palces buiding their factories or setiing  their companies here .Meanwhile , if the mainstead of the economics  in OC are companies of outsiders , then these people might be more concerned about the policies and economic restrictions which are tightly related to  the politics and business .

Another obvious fallacy the argument is suffering from is about its assumption that people living elsewhere can not understand the civic issues . However , it is completely out of common sense . It is entirely possible people living else where have worked in OC for a quitelong time ,and they may be understand every aspect of OC more than the local citizens .Perhaps , OC itself is a big city with a lot of outsiders from different cities who are the main labor force for OC and even determine the function of the city . Moreover, if some people have two houses both in OC and another city ,and they maily live in OC actually during their work days , then if the club reserves membership from these people , that would be a great hurt and depressoin for them .

Last but not least , the situations in EC can not be justifiabley applied to OC , because it is common sense that any warranted comparison should be based on the precondition that every single aspect of the two cities should be exactly the same . However, the argument fails to informs us this type of similarity .Then we can safely infer that maybe EC is a very small city , and the outlanders there are firstly less than OC ,maybe 25 is actually a very large amount according to the total amount .It is entirely possible that OC is a industrial  city and provides a lot of jobs for people from other cities and thus needs more members in the club to discuss the civic issues . Without considering the real facts and blindly imitating the measures of another city , there is no doubt that it would be harmful for the operation and function of the city .

In sum , the argument just sketches the very surface of some vaue facts and follows a misleading line of reasoning without any careful research or consideration , thus the conclusion is definitely unconvicing  . If the argument had included more validinformation about  the real population in the two cities and the number of local residents and outlanders repsectively , it would have been greatly improved .

Do those who treat politics and morality as they were separate realms fail to understand either the one or the other? The speaker claims so. On a large scale, this statement is quite reasonable to me; however, to completely separate the two items will also result in failure.

In politics, in order to hold one's position, the politicians cannot be stick to the high morality standards strictly. Since in the political world, there exist different interests' groups whose views and benefits may conflict each other, they are always struggling with others: try to collapse other group's leadership and construct their own. Therefore, to hold his/her position, a politician sometimes just cannot be a savant. Consider every 4 year's election. The candidates always finding out the fallacies of hid/her counterparts and fire at them. Even these flaws are peccadilloes, to strengthen the effects, they try to overstate them and criticize them. The elections are carried on just like this, in the fire and smog of interactive critics. However, just as the Bible and other classic tell us, one should love others, tolerate others flaws, and be friendly and mild to others, even they are your enemies. Obviously, politicians break these basic rules. In fact, they just cannot obey them, or else they will lose their political power.

Moreover, to protect the security and the stability of the community, the politicians, also need to play tricks to the public. One of the essential parts of morality is honesty. Nevertheless, politicians sometimes must not be totally honest and sincere. Many of the issues are concerning the classified information of the nation, which, once be leaked out, may hurt the well-being of the whole nation. Other policies making process, once be revealed, will raise great dissatisfaction of the public, since the masses are sometimes fail to view the whole picture. Consider the military information, much of which concerns the very security of the nation. If a politician confused the morality with politics and nascent believed that honesty should be applied in every issue, he may put the country's classified information under exposure, while, at the same time, wreak great havoc on the country's security.

However, one should not abuse their political power under the excuses that morality has nothing to do with politics. In fact, keeping high standards morality serves the basis of a good and successful politician. The rationale is quite simple: only when a politician behaves in an admirable and respectable way, can he/she harvest the respects from the public. Looking into the rear mirror provided by the history, the truly great leaders are always those who can try their best to stick to the high standards morality. Consider Gandhi. His success and greatness has been recognized by the history. Instead of winning by playing political tricks, he led his people to victory by behaving in a very respectable manner. Or consider Martin Luther King, the leader of the American's Civil Revolution. He did not try to cheat on the people nor the government to get his own benefits; on the contrary, King held all the African American's welfare in mind and called on the people to be calm and peaceful in struggling for their basic civil rights. Such behaviors, apparently, were based on the standards of morality. Without such morality serving as the basis, none could these political movements and these leaders are successful.

Truly, morality and politics cannot be mixed together, which will hurt both the future of a politician as well as the well-being and security of a nation. However, morality should not be therefore deemed as a redundancy of the politics. In fact, it serves the very basis of a successful political leadership and political victories.

In most professions and academic fields, is imagination more important than knowledge? The speaker claims so. Though it seems that it is imagination that inspires those experts to discover the wholly new things which are great beneficial to the whole human civilization, I still believe that without the solid support of knowledge, all those beautiful mental image will just stay at the stage of in nascent, and will never truly benefit the society.

Of course, imagination, setting people free from the confinement of conventions and conforms, will stimulate people to think out of the box, and perceive things and the world in a different way, which provides the basis for creative invention as well as breaking discovery. Many of the conventions of traditional view point and culture, to certain degree, prevent people from truly creating study which keep them from making significant breakthrough. Such conventions in academic world, sometimes, almost equal to killing the experts and researchers' revolutionary inspirations in nascent.
Therefore, to break through such limitations, a researcher should employ the imagination to help him/her view the physical world and issues from a new perspective, which are more likely to lead to meaningful discoveries. Consider the Wright Brothers, the inventors of the airplanes. Rather than inspired by the existing knowledge, they were stimulated by human being's long-time dream--- flying, and their own imagination---flying like a bird, and finally created the vehicle which, not only bear significance in the intellectual world, but also have greatly moved human civilization forward.

However, without the support of knowledge, many imagination works risk being unfeasible, or totally wrongful, which carry no significant meaning to the academic world. Many of imaginations lacks the basis of solid knowledge, or even are in violation with those basic principles; thus, only by referring to specific knowledge can we identify whether the imagination are truly meaningful to the academic and even the whole world. Consider the permanent power machine----a fantastic imagination work of some physicians in the 19th century. Upon first glance, one may find it great and gorgeous. In fact, that was what many scientists thought. However, scrutinized by basic physic principles, it is not difficult to realize that such imaginative work violates Newton's basic physical principles. Thus, rather than a significant and laudable creation, it merely equaled to a dreaming unfeasible product, bearing little significance to the academy.


Also, relying on pure imagination, lacking the basis of solid precise academic knowledge, stands every possibility to just equal to pure fantasy, and cannot be realized in the real world, which is the basic means to bring imaginations to nourish fruits, benefiting the academic fields, and extand the profits of academic fruits to the social world. Most of the truly amazing discoveries in the academic world and professions are generated by bringing the imagination to the real world under the instruction of specific professional knowledge. Actually, only when the imaginations come into the reality and benefit the intellectual as well as the social world, can it claim that it is meaningful, and this process will not be going on without professional knowledge. Consider, without the exponentially development of computer science, which yield myriads of knowledge on electronic and software, how can the internet, whose benefits have already spread out the academic world, be feasible both conceptually and in reality. Lacking of the basic knowledge, the imagination will just like a kite without rope in the sky: beautiful and fascinating may be, rarely bear truly applicable meaning and always equal to pure fantasy.

In short, imagination, surely, is important and necessary in many professions and academic fields, which will free people's thoughts to gender more significant discoveries and breakthroughs. However, on the other hand, we cannot rely wholly on the imaginations to lead our intellectual world. Only by combining knowledge and imagination together, and letting the knowledge to instruct our mental imaging work, can we truly nourish great imaginative work that will serve as the motivation to move forward the academy and society.

Admittedly, the experience working in related jobs can benefit both teachers and students. Working in professions relevant to the courses can also make the teacher more objective and useful when he instructs the students to choose their career. For example, teachers having some working experience would know which kinds of ability are more emphasized by employers and then the students can more or less benefit what these teachers said.

Though working outside the academic is beneficial, there are some fields difficult to find jobs relevant or useful to them. For those who teach some pure theoretical subjects, such as mathematics, theoretical physics and literature, they may find it difficult to combine their teaching with relevant professional field. How can Stephen Hawking make his theory accessible to the public when he is occupied in working outside academic world irrelevant to professional field?  Moreover, some philosophers prefer loneliness rather than disruption from the mundane world to contemplate something important to human beings. For example, Montaigne, the famous French philosophy, retired from public life to his castle where boasted a collection of thousands of books and isolated himself from all social and family affairs for ten years to work on his Essays which is regarded one of the most important philosophy masterpiece in history.

To improve the quality of instruction, there are some other methods. One method is encouraging students to participate some researches relating what they study.  When asked what the usage of Statistics is, most of students may be puzzled. However, they may be more familiar to every parameter learned in Statistics after they attended some work relating to this subject. Another method is encouraging students to question what they have taught. Skepticism make students more intelligent.

In sum, we should encourage some faculty not all to work outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. Aside this method, there are others to improve the quality of instruction at the college.

But at Mira Vista College last year, only 70 percent of the seniors who informed the placement office that they would be seeking employment had found full-time jobs within three months after graduation, and only half of these graduates were employed in their major field of study. To help Mira Vista's graduates find employment, we must offer more courses in business and computer technology and hire additional job counselors to help students with their resumés and interviewing skills."
