As a coin has two sides, the education that teaches students to probe their own emotions can be both detrimental and beneficial. It is true that such education can induce them to reflect to themselves, know more about their own psychology. While in the other hand, excess focus on one self's spirit world would make a person egocentric and hence disable to develop healthily.
Nowadays, most of us agree the point that reasoning and logical thinking should be place emphasis on the development of pupils. However, this is not enough. What make human different from animals and other creations is that human possesses the ability of thinking and have influence emotions. We can smile, cry, shout, dismay, sad, and so on, while animals have few emotions. Naturally many questions then arise up. Why do we have so many kinds of emotions? What do these emotions exist for? Sometimes, we do know what our emotions denote. For example, if one of your relatives is in danger of loss his life, you will be anxious about it, and you know your worry dues to the fear of losing him. However, in many cases, we are confused about why we feel anxious and why we get angry. It seems that there is nothing to worry about. How strange it is! Therefore, there is the need to explore our own emotions.
Hence, teaching students to know more about their emotions is necessary. It provides us a good way to understand ourselves. As an old Chinese saying goes, the one who know himself is clever. How to know ourselves? Except the evaluations of others, the best way to achieve this is self reflect. Reflect our behaviors, and reflect our emotions. Actually, most of our behaviors are influenced by our emotions; as a result, probing our emotions is indispensable for us to know ourselves. For different students we should adopt different method to guide them to explore their own emotions. For example, for a student who is always feeling nervous to contact with strangers, we should teach them to ask him, why does him feel nervous? Only does him get the answer can he conquers the fear.
This kind of education that teaches the student to explore their own emotions can lead the students to know their psychology problems and their advantages. However, too much emphasis on it can be harmful. Emotions are reflections of a person's spirit world. The one who focuses too much on himself tends to be egocentric. Since he cares too much about his emotions, he would fail to listen to others' voice. Actually, it is an kind of selfishness. For example, an empire who only cares about the happiness of himself will be fail to listen to his subordinate’s wise advices and immersed in the world of enjoying. Moreover, a person who focuses too much on his own spirit world will get spiritual disease easily. It’s a pity that many liberators, artists, who pay excess attention to their own emotions, suicide in the end. Van Gogh, a famous painter, who distilled his own emotions into his masterpieces, killed himself for spiritual disease. He was always trying to express his emotions on his works; as a result, he took too much consideration on his own spirit world. However, human's emotions are a strange thing; you can never understand it completely. Van was confused with it and he killed himself in the end.
In sum, we need to educate our students to explore their own emotions, for the sake of enable them to know more about themselves. However, it's also important to lead students to control it in a suitable degree so that our students can avoid the danger of falling egocentric and other spirit deceases. |
