As education is a basic need for everyone, there is always a debate on whether all faculties in college and university should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach so that the quality of instruction could be improved. The statement may have a positive answer to the question while I think some faculty should be required to because this kind of research would benefit both the professors and the students. However, the time spent on working outside the academic world should not be too much and may not be suitable for all subjects.

The working outside academic world in professions for a faculty will bring more knowledge and fresh ideas to not only the colleges and university, but also the whole society. First and foremost, it could give the professor more information and thus enhance the ability of teaching. When focused on a research, professors could get much more knowledge through their own deep thinking and practical experience than through books, which originated from others. And, some problems could only be discovered during experiments or using. With the practical research, the professors also will raise some creative ideas, which could generate more discoveries. Next, when the professors generate more ideas, they may take their research achievements to class as example of the practical use of the knowledge, which could be attractive to the students and impulse the motive power to study deeply. As a result, students could have fresh ideas in class and even take part in the professors' researches and as a consequence learns more in the process. What's more, when the levels of both professors and students are promoted, the whole society could be benefited from the revolution brought by them, because the aim of technology and skills, which achieved by the professors and students, is the well-being of the whole society.

Also, it is necessary to refresh the knowledge in time in this way. The knowledge from the books is always not up to date to the newest information of the whole realm in this high-speed time. If the faculties are required to work outside the academic world, the professor and students could both get the newest information from practical experience, which could in turn enhance learning.

However, this kind of action is limited to the subjects which could be taken into practical experiment, such as the chemistry, business, engineering, medical science and so on. How could the faculty whose major is phycology, history, mathematics, or other abstract subjects take part in the working outside the academic world? Their knowledge structures are all built in their minds and could only be presented on papers rather than practical using. As a result, not all majors are adaptable for the outside-academic world working.

For the faculty, whose major is adaptable for outside-academic world working, they should not pay too much attention on that because their primary job is instruction at the college and university. If they focus too much on the outside working, their energy and time that cost on instruction will be decreased and the quality of instruction will be lowered in turn. As a result, a faculty should divide their time scientifically.

To the final analysis, working outside an academic world in professions for a faculty will benefit not only the colleges and university, but also the whole society. However, it is unsuitable for all subjects and the time and energy spend on it should not be too much. Only when the faculty could hold a good division in this case, the quality of instruction is best.
