According （the） result of a study, author gives a conclusion that scent of lavender flower can cure insomnia. To support this conclusion, the author presents the progress of this study in three weeks and gives conclusion of each week. However, in my view, this conclusion is specious if author only gives this conclusion based on（the） result of this study.

First of all, the author mentions that during the third week, the volunteers slept longer and more soundly than in the previous two weeks. But the author does not prove that this effect is because of volunteers using lavender-scented pillow. There is possible that volunteers have this effect in the third week is because of volunteers have used sleeping medicine for a long time which has had effective on volunteers. On the other hand, although the condition of volunteers in the second week is worse than in the first week, it is maybe because that volunteers’ body have not adapted the condition that volunteers suddenly stop eating sleeping medicine. Otherwise, there is another reason which cannot be ignored that volunteers are all too tired when they have been monitored for two weeks. Thus, either one reason mentioned above can make author’s conclusion failed.

Secondly, there is no other group of volunteers can be used as the opponent sample. The author also ignores that the condition volunteers happened in the third weeks is because of their psychological factors. Perhaps volunteers are affected by psychological hint, thus volunteers’ body can get better if volunteers always wish their sleeping condition will get better. This psychological effect is named Hawthorne. To decrease this effect, author should enact another group of samples.

Finally, although volunteers can sleep longer and more soundly than in the previous two weeks, the author does not point out that whether volunteers feel tired in the third week. The author loses the possibility that volunteers feel even more tired in the third week than they feel in the previous two weeks. This situation is too susceptible to prove that lavender-scented pillow can cure insomnia. Otherwise, author does not explain the concrete insomnia standard. Even volunteers can sleep longer in the third week; this does not mean that insomnia of volunteers has been cured.

In sum, author’s conclusion is not convincing. For reliable, author should prove that the condition in the third week is not cause by sleeping medicine volunteers used before. The author also should provide another group of volunteers as contraction. For more strong, the author should provide an insomnia standard.
