argument159
In this argument, the arguer concludes that the citizens of Claria should use both air conditioners and fans in order to save the money on electricity. To substantiate the concludes, the arguer
piont out that many citizens of Claria suffer from the rising cost of electivity. In addition, the arguer cites the result of a recent study of househlol electric costs which shows that the cost of using both the fan and the air conditioner at the same time is the lower than use fans or air conditioners alone. The argument suffers from several critical fallacies.
Firstly, during the analysising, the arguer fails to take the geographical factors and diverse situation into account. While we are informed that there are wide geographic differences and many citizens that suffers the rising cost of electivity, the arguer dose not provide any details concerning the exact number of those citizens as well as their location . We cannot contribute the reason to what we use to lower the temperature, if just a few percentage of the whole population suffers from the cost rising, which maybe result from the personal reason such as the lack of the sparing habit. Or if only the families living in the hot area is experiencing the cost rising, it is unwise to require all the citizens including the frigid and the temperate to install the both applicances. So without the absent information, it is imprudent for us to recommend the policy that intents to solve the rising cost of the electivity.
Secondly, there is an incomplete and selective comparison in this argument. Through a study, the arguer discovers that using both fans and air conditioners is the cheapest way and using the fan alone is more expensive than using the air conditioner alone. However the arguer does not provide any information regarding the three groups' location and the personal comfortable sense of the temperature. It is possible that the three groups are in different areas. such as the typical and the frigid, in which the climate is totally dissimilar which led to the temperature and the amount of hours in day and days in a year, during which we need to cool their houses, varies significantly. It is, no doubt, that the families in the hoter area will use more of applicances to cool their houses than other areas and hence the cost of electivity will be more than other too. What's more, even if the three groups are in the same area, the personal habit of the temperature will also affect the cost of electivity in some way. For example if one's comfortable temperature is 27 degree and the other is 29 degree, they, of course, will adapt the air conditioner or fan to a suitable modle which will definitely cause the unlike cost of electivity.
To conclude, this argument is not persuasive because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. Before we recommend this policy to the citizen, the arguer must present more evidence concerning the percentage of the affected families and the location of those families and to better evaluate the argument, the more information of the amount of time for cooling and the personal comfortable temperature of each family in each group should be informed.
