A graduate research assistantship and a graduate teachingassistantship for doctoral degree are available immediately in the wheatgenomics lab, Department of Biology and Microbiology, South Dakota StateUniversity (SDSU) at Brookings, SD to work on functional and applied genomicsof wheat and its related species. Functional genomic research in the wheatgenomics lab will focus on identifying genes underlying agriculturally andbiologically important traits, characterizing their function and dissecting thegenetic pathways using state-of-the-art functional genomics tools such as RNAprofiling, RNA silencing and TILLING. Applied genomic research will center ondevelopment of genomic resources such as exotic genetic libraries fordissecting complex traits and cloning QTL. There is also an excellentopportunity for the incumbents to participate in ongoing collaborative projectson physical mapping of wheat chromosomes and genetic dissection of the ligninbiosynthetic pathway to improve biomass quality for biofuel production. SDSU isa land-grant university and the state's largest institution of higher educationwith an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students. Detailed information ofthe Department of Biology and Microbiology and requirements for enrollment canbe found at the web site http://www3.sdstate.edu/Academics/CollegeOfAgricultureAndBiologicalSciences/BiologyandMicrobiology.As a typical college town, Brookings has an excellent K-12 education system, anactive cultural and social environment and numerous lakes and parks. Toapply, send a cover letter with a statement of research interest, CV, TOEFLscore and contact information (phone and email) for three references to Dr.Wanlong Li at wanlong.li@sdstate.edu.
