56. "Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future."

People always have a tendency to suppose what would happen in the future, especially for the bad ones so that they could reserve time to do the preparatory jobs to avoid, or at least reduce the undesired result. This scenario also happens with our governments, which have to be responsible not just to his contemporary citizens but also their descendent. While it will indisputably benefit to see things from the long run, our intension should be more focused on the problems demanding immediate plan to resolve, for these are the ones closer linked to our daily life.

Admittedly, many problems have been foreseen to emerge if we do not take action from now on, such as the environmental disasters. As a result of people's narrow-sighted pursuit for wealth and a cozier life, the global warming and the consequently rising of sea level, as well as more floods and unusual earthquakes appear. Only lately did us, especially the Governments begin to realize something have to be done to prevent the possibility of eradiation by nature, thus call for the international cooperation, say, the agreement on reducing the discharge of CO2. Doubtlessly, these measures taken by our governments worth the money and effort spent.

Thinking of this issue, some scientists turned their minds to extreme solutions: what if expand our habitat to the moon so that one day we can just abandon the polluted earth? The government even supported their experiment on this fantastic thought by building a whole-close structure at great costs. Is this kind of preparation worthwhile? Rather than prepare for the worst anticipated consequence for our descendants, why don’t us use the money and resource to equip our factories with more environmental healthy machines or simply grow more trees and grass, which would at less be helpful to this generation? After all, these passive result, even would not occur if firm steps are taken from now on. And it is entirely possible that some other problems anticipated might not happen in the way we expect or what can be done in the present have little effect but is time and money consuming.

Taking all these into consideration, what most needs the government’s attention is the existing and urgent problems in contemporary society, for some of them have much to do with the issue whether we can survive. With such a exploding population, the lack of food is more urgent an problem facing nations with less crop land; with the advancing educational process, more well-qualified graduates flow to the job market yet can not find satisfactory jobs. Don’t the food, unemployment, crime and terrorism deserve more of the governments’ attention?

As discussed above, although some of the problems, which might occur in the year far from now, do demand our money and resource to prevent from happening, our Government should still focus more on the existing and urgent problem in this age. After all, foreseeing is not reality, and we all know the most urgent things go first.

LZ的写法比较新,没有按常规的平衡分析,这一点还是会很有新鲜感,让人眼前一亮。
句子的运用值得学习。
本文的分析个人觉得说服力有点不够~
