70. "In any profession—business, politics, education, government—those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership."
Thesis: whether should there be revitalization and whether revitalization should take its way through new leadership vary among different professions.
Outline:
1、some profession need regular revitalization by regular changing of leadership (governments)
2、but revitalization does not take place necessarily though the fixed term of leadership changing (government, business)
3、however, still some other professions should not change leadership (religion, monarchy)
When a individual's life is dominated by one simply occupation for quite a long time, he/she may fill exhausted or bored and can no long keep his/her focus on it any more, in which case a shift to other subject to gain a little flesh ideas can be a great help. This is no exeption for our various professions in society, which demands revitalizaion regularly, and most of the time should be done with obsorbing new concepts and, even the change of leadership.
When talking about regularly revitalization, it is a most necessity for the government. Since the younger generation of leadership, most often than not, have a more sensitized thought for the newly appeared issues and are more positive/eager to devote himself into resolving urgent problems in order to build up his prestige, the timely changing of leadership could bring a new tide of both ideas and actions to swipe out existing problems. On the contrary, if a political official stay at his position for a quite long period, his unguarded bias or preference towards certain officials of lower power may eventually result in their corruption, which will undoubted harm the country badly.
Have a glimpse on the political institution, though many countries have their new president or chairman selected every four or five years, such as the cases of America and China, chances are that many of them managed to retain his position after the first serve term, and the Mrs. Thatcher even have her period prolonged to 11 years. This illustrates the point that revitalization of an enterprise, at least in the political profession, may not have to take its place by changing the leader after a fixed term. If they are capable to handle the steer in accordance with the trend of the mass's needs as well as the political climate worldwide, their capability should be recognized. As to the business, how long should the manager of a company retain the position is almost a ridiculous question for the essential goal of a company is to maximize its profits. As long as the manager attracts adequate competent and creative working force, which is the source of the viability of a enterprise, and eventually ensures money flow in stability to satisfy the share-holders as well as their workers, people may want him/her always be the leaders.
However, there are also certain enterprises in which should never need revitalization or have their leadership be changed until the person's expiration, such as the religion and Monarchy of several countries, for those are more concerned with tradition and people's faithful mental belief. For instance, Monarchy in the United Kingdom can be traced back to the very time when the country was found, and the English people have always been proud of their king/queen, believing they are the missioners for the God, therefore they, as well as their descendants should always be at the predominate position so as to the guard people's belief and the nation's high morality. This is also the case with religion leaders. Either their life-long term of service or the chosen of new leader, such as the reincarnation of Buddha and the heredity of Pope, have resulted from people's belief and the willingness to keep the purity of the soul and blood of their gods.
As discussed above, while most enterprises in contemporary society do have a need of regular revitalization, most of the time though leader changing, to remain prosperous, when it comes to the belief and emotional willingness of people, we should have the believers' spiritual leaders always be there and let tradition take its way.
