Agree or disagree with the following statement: it is more important to award students for effort (trying or hard working) than for achievement (good grades)

When asked about whether students should be awarded by effort or achievement, we students have various ideas. Some hold the point that based on years of experience, achievement is the best way to judge a student's abilities. While others argued that as schools are requiring more than scores, effort should be the main factor that shows a student's ability instead of achievement. As far as I am concerned, I still keep the opinion that it is more important to award students for achievement than for effort.

Firstly, achievement is the result of effort, it is regarded as the value of effort. On the contrary, effort cannot always result in achievement, sometimes people's effort gains nothing. A racer was awarded the first prize because s/he took the shortest time to the terminal. In this example, judges judged the racers by the achievement they got, no matter how hard a unrewarded racer practiced. So in the fact, people judge a person's ability more on what s/he represents than the effort s/he takes.

Can we ensure that effort is absolutely fair on judging a person's ability? Frankly speaking, effort is in some respects just like achievement. People pointed out that when it comes to teamwork, it is unfair to award the leader only. If we replace achievement with effort, can people measure clearly on the effort each person takes in the project? If we do take effort into account, people may exaggerate their effort in, aim to be awarded more. What's worse, the team got the greatest achievement may feel unfair and would not work that hard any more. In conclusion, awarding students for effort is not more important than for achievement as people's saying.

As I have mentioned above, achievement seems to be the most effective way to judge a person's ability, but the effort cannot be ignored. It is just not that significant. When a leader received the award, s/he always distributed it to the members based on their effort. Thus, to award a student, it is more important for achievement than for effort, and the effort should also be involved in the student's value.

So in the fact(in fact), people judge a person's ability more on what s/he represents(representation 有表现的意思，但是它的动词是不是一般都用做代表的意思呀？个人觉得show or manifest会不会好一点？) than the effort s/he takes.
