TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

To meet the needs of nowaday's students,many univresity and college required their teacher to spend time working outside in order to improve the teaching skill as well as renew their knowledge----to benefit their students with the up-to-date knowledge and help them well-adapted the new world. However, is it necessary to request all the teachers,no matter what field they were in to have a outside working? and is it can reach the primary goal of university as enhance teacher’s quality of instruction? In my view, it was in doubt. Different subject has its unique character while work outside world is not always a wise way to the teacher's improvement.

Admittedly, to some subjects in university, which closely related to the real world,a outside working experience do benefit the teacher and in turn, the students. For example,the business course, which contains myraid of case study from the real world----about some company's effective tactics, good investment, and their fail experience. If a teacher who do take part in the decision making process of a company, then he or she certainly can provide more vivid examples and more detailed information than other's, accordingly, can give the students a more clearly scenario as well as useful tips in handling such situations. Therefore, students can learn more in this case than the old cases from textbook, which was out-dated. As these courses are more and more popular in universities,
such as courses in management, ecomonics, politics and media study, the teachers in the above subjects should spend some time working outside the academic world and participate in the real work to fulfill their knowledge, moreover, to keep in pace with the changing world as well.


However,only require the teachers to have some outside work not always catch the primary goal, after all,it is a way of school which aims to improve the quality of teacher and appeal more students, accordingly, lacking the management of teachers do may have a counterproductive effect----teachers may spend a large amount of time in outside working but pay little attention to the in-campus teaching. A telling example is happeded in my school----law school. One of our civial law teachers is also work as a layer outside, of course, at the beginning we alway get many newly happened cases in class which is very interesting. Yet, during the last semester, she had less time to attend class on time and paid little time in our team paper for the reason the outside work was very busy and need more time to finish. Finally, the quality of our civial law class is decrease. According to the example, we can see if a teacher is encouraged to take more outside works, it is not benefit but rather do harm to the quality of class. After all, with the limited time and power teachers do well at both the side.

Moreover, some course do not have a related outside job because it is a subject based on locially deduction instead of experience. For example,philosiphy and math. These subject depends on well-considered thinking process to improve, and participte a certain job is a waste of time and useless. To the teachers in these subject, provide more oppptunities to take part in more international seminors or leave their more time for thinking is indeed a good way to help them enhance the academic level.A requirment of a certain ourside work experience is either a hard task to teacher or a waste of money to school.

In conclusion, require teachers to take part in a outside work do help them to enhance the quality of instruction insofar as the courses related to the practical work. Yet, it should be a proper working time and load which do not have an adverse consequense to the normal classes in-campus. On the other side, some courses do not depend on working experience to improve, therefore more other means is need to truly enhance the academic level.

我个人喜欢简洁且明了的开头。你的开头是不是太过于累赘啊?有点。。凑字的嫌疑啊。。
