It is universally acknowledged that some educational systems should place more attentions on the exploration of emotions than that on reasoning and logical thinking for the reason that students can benefit more from the former.Nevertheless, although persons appear to obtain different experiences and conflicting values,we can hardly deny the fact that it is inappropriate to cultivate students'emotions rather than their intellect
not only in most academic disciplines for the purpose of mastering their disciplines but in the process of forming the capacity to contribute a healthy societyAs far as I am concerned, the exploration of emotions, which is considered to be more benefical by many people, tends to work effectively only in the arts.
To begin with,as a matter of fact,I am inclined to agree with the speaker's statement insofar as irrational emphasis on reasoning and logical thinking seems to result in a serious effect. After all,It is the emotion such as happiness, sadness, hope, disappointment and desperation, making artistic thoughts and inspiration spring out of artists'hearts. And,what artists or students in the arts extremely desire is to have fresh emotions.Nonetheless, even in the arts, proper ability of reasoning and logical thinking must be equipped with students ,which is greatly necessary for mastering the craft. For example, contemporary writing requires writers to obtain the cognitive ability to understand how to use the language.Besides, the cognitive ability is a kind of the reasoning and logical thinking ability.
Aside from its application in the arts, however, educational systems can achieve no benefit from the exploration of emotions.Obviously, the physical science such as chemistry, physics and biology are purely the products of reasoning and logical thinking. Moreover, even in the humanities which is called the "soft" science, emotions can result in no progress.Steven Alfred,a distinguished chemist who discovered a drug to those afflicted with gonorrhea,is a case in point.Throughout his life,he devoted himself to doing experiments. As a consequence,he didn't get married and do any exploration of his own emotions. Finally, however, with respect to his ability of reasoning and logical thinking,he suceeded to discovery the drug. From the example mentioned above,it come as no surprise that reasoning and logical thinking ability serves to be the
driving force of educational systems except for the arts.
Another reason why I insisit on my opinion is that undue emphasis on the exploration of emotions hinders students'healthy growth.Actually, students'healthy growth needs a perfect combination between the reasoning and logical thinking ability and the exploration of emitions. Moreover, the reasoning and logical thinking ability acts as an absolutely dominant role in the combination.Thereby,a excessive exloration of emotions can inevitably leads to a situation where students grow up in an unexpected direction.According to a recent survey issued by the Department of Sociology at Lancaster university, roughly 21.8% students suffer from various kinds of mental problems such as depression and stress. It is a 11.2% increase compared with the data at the same last year.Researchers in the survey pointed out that the excessive explorations of emotions in some schools arouse the phenomenon in which there exists an increasing number of students who are diagnosed with mental problems.
In summary, from what has been discussed above we can arrive at the conclusion safely that reasoning and logical thinking can sever as significant catalysts for complishments in every academic disipline except that the arts and it help to gain a capacity for constructing a healthy society.Undeniably,it is high time that any government, which is blind to this, may place much more emphasis on making several relevant measures by utilizing which can we encourage students to explore their emotions properly. |
