Education, which is the most important means to help children socialize, whether it is effective is depend on if the children is well-socialized in the process-----they learned the basic values and norms in the society as well as the language utilization, knowledge of math and the way to get on well with others, meanwhile, generate a independent personality in the process. In this sense, the speaker's assertion as only when education is specifically designed to meet the individual needs that it is truly effective seems too simple to understand the efficacy of education.
As what is defined above, socialization is the most important goal to education, whether it is effective can be measured as firstly, whether the children understand the basic skills to live in the society; secondly, is he generate a independent personality in this process. Admittedly, specially designed education which to meet the individual needs and interests of each student do help him form his own personalities, while it is not always effective to help them learn the basic skills to live in the society. For example, many students do not have any interest in math, which seems difficult and hard to learn. if we cancel the math courses because of the dislikes of children, how could he learn physics in the future, which is based on math, or even computer. Math is the basic skills to other fields, without it , children are different learning other course whatever how interested they were in. Moreover, the another telling example is about the language study, if we not teacher students the basic language for it is what they like, how can this boy communicate with others, and, how can he live as a member of the society?
However, lacking the basic skills, any students is not deemed to well-developed and in turn, any education is not effective at all. The most effective education should be emphasis on both the basic skills as a human and the specially design to meet the needs and interests of every individual. In our education system, we have both fundamental education and higher education, which act as different roles in children's socialization. The responsibility of fundamental education, which includes the primary school and middle school, is to teach students about the basic thing, for example, the basic values as honest and loyalty; basic principles in the law; languages as well as math which is the foundation of other courses. When it comes to higher education, such as university and college, we have free options to choose our major, and it is the very time to depend on one's individual needs and interests to make a decision. For example, to be a physician or a layer in the future or just devote to philosophy. Therefore, this education, as I mean which provide basic knowledge and the free choices to develop the personal interests, it the truly effective education.
On the other hand, the speaker's claim is not a viable means as well, in other words, education which is specifically designed to meet everyone's needs and interests cannot be put into effect in reality. As we have finite resources and limited teacher, as well as the limited money of government which cannot meet the need in highly specialized education, the unavailable means is never called an effective means. We can have family teachers in some family and in some life period, but we cannot provide such amount of family teachers to satisfy every individual's needs. What's more, only learn knowledge at home, we cannot gain the skills to communicate with other and the sense of cooperation and competition. Therefore, it is not a well-round education, not to mention effective.
In sum, the speaker fails to generate the key of effective education. I concede that to meet the student's special needs and interests is important in the higher education, but it is not the whole of education. In fact, to gain the basic skill as a human and pursuit the personal interests as well is the most effective education.
