Technology has been considered the impetus of society and even regarded as a primary productive force by myriads of leaders for a long time. However, as technology begins to bring about a great of hot potatoes, different voice which doubt or even condemn what technology has induced can be heard more and more frequently. Faced with the applause and the condemnation, the function of technology should be discussed thoroughly in order to make a objective appraisal of it.

It is true that maleficence is associated with technology sometimes. The evil of nuclear bombs dropping in Hiroshima has been seen by all the world in the world war two with the result of millions of people dead and heavy nuclear pollution. And the bio-chem weapons also had caused millions of civilian die of bacteria infection which could not be cured by any medical method of that time. But the most threatening and devastating weapon in the world today are still nuclear bombs and bio-chem weapons which have been made more threatening than before due to the development of science and technology. Both of the two kinds of weapons are produced within the nearby 60 years and were once the proud of some nations. And until now some countries are desperately doing experiments for producing nuclear weapons by themselves in order to threaten other countries under the name of creating balance for the world. And all these things are menacing our peace, stability of the world and even the survival of human beings.

Furthermore, crime on the internet is becoming more and more rampant with the boom of internet which is the result of further progress of the technology of electronic communication and computer. Net Crime takes many forms including hacking, viruses, fraud, and such like. And the culprits including teenagers and adults are all proficient in internet technology or we can say they are professionals. They always hack into the networks operated by the vital national institution such as NASA and US military or break down
commercial websites such as yahoo and CNN and the like causing millions of dollars' loss, menacing the safety of some nations and resulting in a lot of inconvenience for both the government and the common people.

Although technology creates quite a lot of tough problems for our world that could not be solved easily, we cannot deny the revolution it has brought to us which had radically changed the world. Once only monks and riches had the privilege to read books for paper is too expensive to be afforded by common people. The technology of printing press invested by Gutonberg changed the situation and helped human find the way out of ignorance. And invention of the steam engine provides us with huge power that brought out the industry revolution which had radically changed human's life.  And then a succession of technology progress such as the invention of light , the electronic ---the telephone, for example, the development of biology and such like had occurred leading us to modern society  where we are living a more convenient, comfortable, healthy, enlightened and civilized life.

We all know every sword has double edges. It is not reasonable to abandon an excellent sword just because it will also bring about some negative affects. Technology is just the excellent sword. Although it had caused some intractable problems, there is nothing in the world as technology which can bring so many benefits for us. And those tough problems induced by technology will be resolved as technology progresses. This has already be justified by history.
