People live in areas where huge numbers of homes are connected to each other, making almost every home has one or two neighbors living nearby. Having a close neighbor is advantageous to some degree in terms of the good qualities of a neighbor. However, what are the desirable qualities that a good neighbor must have?

   Above all, a good neighbor may be like a friend who happens to live nearby, in turn, the qualities of a friend may be involved, such as enthusiasm and trust. There goes a saying--”A friend in need is a friend indeed”, which can equally be applied to a neighbor. Whenever people need help, a warmhearted neighbor should give his hands to them. For example, he can assist in fixing some damaged water pipes. As to the quality of trust, an example will suffice to illustrate that point. It is common that people often leave a spare key in their neighbor’s house.

   Another quality a good neighbor should have, I think, is that the awareness of not disturbing others, while doing group activities, and take arranging parties for example. If people are informed that their neighbors, especially the old or the extremely young, say, an infant, are at home, they may try not to bother them while enjoying their own time by dancing or singing.

   Finally, the most important, is that a good neighbor shouldn’t touch on personal items without permission. For instance, someone who has noticed plenty of fruits on the branches of his neighbor’s trees, and the branches stretch over the fence between into his own area. Thus, he may desire to taste some of them. Obviously, it isn’t proper to touch the fruits because of the fact that one should request permission first, showing respect for others.

   As discussed above, the qualities of a good neighbor contain several aspects such as friendly, helpful, thoughtful, respectful and so forth. It is fortunate for people to have such a neighbor living nearby, which may bring them a happy and comfortable life. Therefore, I, myself, as other people’s neighbor, am making efforts to
behave well like the above qualities to share a harmony life with others.
