When i was engaged in this issue, I found there is a controversy lying in it. Some people contend that the way by which one looks, dresses, and acts frequently reveals his or her attitudes. What’s more, we can discern a society’s ideas and values by the appearance and behavior. However, some people hold the opposite view. Insofar as I can see, i fundamentally agree with this standpoint for to some extend I believe the external phenomena reflect the internal state, such as mood, attitudes ,interests, even a society's ideas.

Firstly, it is easy for us to judge an individual's attitude and interests according to his or her look , dress and so on. As we all know, we, human beings, are the highest creators in the nature; we have the most complex mental organizations to generate free wills. Consequently, the external actions are determined by our psychological status. For example, during the period of bad mood, we might lose interest in anything, and looks like dismay. Whereas, when we devote ourselves into something interested, such as go to a party, journey, we are always full of passion and vitality. We would like to wear with hilarious dressing, smiling all the time. Though the behaviors are affected by many factors, we can not deny that the psychological status has played a critical role in determination.   

Expand the assertion to a broad realm; it is also a quick way to tell from the appearance and behavior of its people to learn about a society's ideas and values. For instance, hippie, occurred in 1950's American, wore long hair and grew beard. Young woman dressed like peasants and wore psychedelic colors. All of them seemed dirty, drugged and disrespect of elders and society at large. Their looks and appearances indicate they would oppose and reject  the conventional standards and customers of their society, and by this way they show avocation of  the extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitude and lifestyle, even ethic standard. Since Happie is represent of the pioneer of America from 1950 to 1960, their looks and appearance can mirror the ideas and values of their country at that time. There are parallels with domestic circumstance. Comparing the dressing style of 1960s to 1990s in china, we will find interesting phenomena. In the former period, people are confined to three colors when they choose their costumes that are black, white and grey. Their personalities were suppressed by collectivism during the "cultural revolution”. A sweeping reform launched in the 1978 greatly emancipated people's mind and behaviors. The Chinese began getting more concerned about their personal interests and favorites, which can also reflect on the appearance. As a result, it is possible for researchers to probe into the contemporary ideas or cultures according to the people’s appearance.

However, the appearance or look does not make up the whole externality of an individual. To understand contemporary culture of a society, analyzing the activities of the people may be the most easy and quick way but not the most effective one. Because an effective one not only means a quick observation but also a comprehensive understand, whereas mere look, dress, act is insufficient. The appearance, with variable and superficial deficiency, hampers people to learn the essential ideas of a society.  What have been formed into the social ideas are those that are lasting and profound.

All in all , as for the feature of a society, including both the externality and internality, acquiring a effective comprehension of it, a combination both its citizens’ appearance, looks, acts and other factors study is needed.

I fundamentally agree with the statement that the way people look,dress and act  can reveals their attitudes and interests, and then shows a society's ideas and values.

First of all, the appearence and behavior of people are influenced by religions in many countries, and the religion embraced by a society can go further to determine the society's ideas and values. For example, Muslems would be recognized by their food and dress. They would like to choose white tradidtional dress and  there would be some time when they are not allowed to eat meat every month. From this point we can conclude their attitudes, especially about the religion. Moreover, generally speaking,  Moslem countries have similar values so we can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearence of its people.

Secondly, we can also guess people's interests according their act or look. When we are comparing different countries' people, the prinsiple is more apparent. For example, most of American people like simple and healthy life style, and they  play sports more than other people. Often we can see people in the USA wear sports dress and exercise, this would be related with the value of American people, that is, they like to challenge and keep a optimistic attitude about life. Also, from the way of working we can know that Japan is a diligent people and from acts of French people, especially of the young , we can conclude that France is a romantic people.

However, observing the appearence and behavior of people is not an absolute method to reveals their attitudes and interests, therefore not able to show a society's ideas without any flaws. Countries with many immigrations are hard to conclude their  values because various of values are existing together in their society. For example, we can find a few characters of American people and the major value in the USA, however, if we want to analyze in detail the ideas and values of American people, we would find just observing people's outlook and act is far from enough, because it is impossible to generalize so many racies completely according their dress, look or act. In order to know the real situations in a society, we should take more complex factors into consideration.

In sum, under most circumstances we can conclude a society's ideas and valuse by observing the appearance and behavior of its people, but the principle does not apply to all situations and to know better about a society we should pay attention to considering other factors.

二社会是由人组成的，所以人们的态度和兴趣能反映出社会的价值观，所以通过衣着和行为能观察出人们的兴趣和态度，也能看出社会的价值观。

Well , I believe that how people dress themselves and their behavior can not only tell their interests and values, but also reveal the ideas and values of their society.

Firstly, the way people dress and behave can show their attitude and interest, as well as their occupation, character and can also whether they are in a good or bad mood. From the occupation aspect, a while collar may dress formal suit during their work time in the company showing his decency and the strict attitude toward his work; an artist are always dressing in a particular and exotic way, they may have long hair dressing quite differently from others, which may show their  unparalleled creativity and unique character. Let's get to the character aspect. A strict man may dress in an antique way or in unfashionable suit, revealing his reluctance to accept the fashion and some other latest things; a happy girl of elastic temperament would like to dress in bright and brisk colors, which can add her happiness and delight. Besides, when in a bad mood people would not tend to dress themselves deliberately, but when in a good mood, a girl, for instance going to a party would rather spending hours in choosing a dress from her wardrobe. Appearance can indeed tell us something about a person.

Appearance can also reveals the idea and value of a society. Society is consists of different individuals, thus individuals' thought and idea is actually the society's value. Residents in the ancient Greece advocated art and science, which represents a trend then, freedom of person's thought and the passion and determination in  exploring the nature. Thus appearance can tell persons' interest and attitude as well as the value of their society. People in North Korea all dress in uniform, with only a few dull colors, black or grey, as well as hairstyle, are all quite the same. Their action and remarks are also uniformed. People can not afford to buy clothes, and they not allowed dress in a diverse way. This strange way they dress and behave reflects the terrible governance of this nation, rude and savage, and the nature of the nation, lacking of creativity, also their undeveloped economy. In contrast, China, which also suffered that savage period called ?The Great Cultural Revolution?, has undergone a dramatic development since its ?open and reform policy? came into effect in the end of the 1970s. People will not suffer from their constraint thought any longer, and get ride of any autocrat of the leader. Thus people can dress in different styles of clothes and in bright color. Each individual's attitude aggregate to the values of the society which can be reflected by their appearance.

One misconception is that appearance and behavior can reflect the whole nature of a person. Admittedly they can represent person's attitude and interests, and it will also lead us to a superficial way to understand a person or a society. Appearance and behavior are such exterior features that can not be used to percept the nature. To comprehend a society, we should study it from every aspect and collect more information, not just confined in that outside characters.

To sum up, appearance and behavior are quite essential for us to understand a person or a society,  but we should not be confined to those superficial things. Only by knowing from different aspect can we percept the interest or attitudes of a person or a society's values.

Recently personal characteristics which are paid attention to usually become a mayor component of the contemporary society. It is a controversy debated among the public that converges in two opinions whether these properties can portray a society's believes. As for me, I consider that there is a relationship between the attitudes and the exteriors of people. In the following two respects of the appearance and behavior, the specific reasons will be listed.

In the first place, the appearance of individuals can reflect their attitudes and interests more or less in modern society. On one hand, seldom are garments totally the same for different persons. For instance, in summer seasons T-shirts become a mainstream of clothes. Adolescents also have a series of shirts to choose that are printed distinct images or manufactured from special materials. Who favors basketball games may dress in clothes with Michael Jordan, a famous basketball star worldwide while a student interested in computer science naturally prefers to a shirt sewed the sign of Microsoft Corporation. Various colors also express interests of people even for the similar style garments. Active ones cast to red dresses; however, black suits are better choices for sophisticates. On the other hand, persons can be told apart from different jewelry decorations. Diamond rings are symbols of much property coinciding with a high economic progress. It is illustrated that citizens begin to focus more on the mental enjoyment. Therefore, the appearance definitely shows the changes in society.

Secondly, there is no denying that behaviors directly indicate some characteristics of residents and their countries. Take the level of morality as a case. In civilization, dwellers act in a polite and honest way. Even in a traffic jam, all drivers abide the norm rather than complete with others. To some extent, the number of crime affairs basically reflects people's attitudes. If the government has focused on education programs for several decades, criminals decline dramatically. When it comes to a democracy country, the public all participate political actions to construct prosperous society. At the same time, they hardly waste the national resource due to a endure development, yet it is impossible to be realized in ancient eras. Hence, in addition to appearance, behavior exerts a profound effect about ideas and values of a society.

Admittedly, in some particular occasions, people are forced to dress and act unaccustomedly which may mislead the normal judgment. A case in point is that at a diplomacy meeting politicians usually follow the certain rules that restrict their improper manners. Whatever they dress and act all depend on the political destination. Without deep investigations, it is unconvincing to conclude the statement of a society. The interior factors which cannot easily be revealed demand our long-time touch and careful observation to tell much about a society's ideas and values.

In short, to identify people's attitudes and interests is actually a complex course. The appearance and behavior can offer original impressions; however, furthermore interior characteristics are still indispensable for accurate discernments. It is an adventure that hasty generalizations inevitably lead to. Combining with the exterior glance and the interior analysis, people can know about a real society.

While the speaker asserts so, in my view I disagree the speaker’s point. The reason for this is that if people want to investigate a society's real ideas precisely, many other aspects should be considered.

First, we admit that to some extent, a person' attitudes and interests can be mirrored their appearance, including look, dress, act and so forth. After all, their value  determines to some degree their behavior. For example, if a person is very fat, we can conclude that he is probably absence of excise and has low healthy sense, and even very lazy in daily life; If a person can express the their idea and thinking very clearly by influence language,  he or she may be labeled the "logical and critical thinking man"; At the same time, if a person is very diligent in his or her working and takes efforts in their assignment, he or she probably hold strong responsibility sense. Moreover, in some countries, for example German, the citizen living in German pursue the precise in any aspects and order society. And  it is true that German embrace preciseness.

Second, some time even if we can recognize people's appearance, we fail to real understand or fathom their nature.  After all, owing to some reason, including social level, or individual level, people often mask their real interests and attitude or are forced to conceal their. Therefore, the quality surveyed only show an illusion about their value. For example, to cover the daily costs, and earn money for whole family, some individual hard work and represent diligent facet in their career, although hating busy life, and high life pace. Although they are lack of confidence and ability to manage the whole nation, they need to pretend them embracing these qualities to get over any difficulties. As a result, the publics will see only a "cheating".

Finally, the traditional culture and some custom play a vital role the society's idea and values. None person can refuse the influence of these factors. So to understand the traditional culture rather than only rests on the people's appearance more help us understand the society's ethos. In particular today, with the development of globalization, people living in the majority of big city  trend to show same appearance characteristics in the first glimpse. They commonly dress the business suits; use English; eat instant food. Nevertheless, it is true that people living different countries have different values. For example, after comparing between China and American we can not conclude that these two countries share common values only in that they have similar appearance, including wearing same dress, and drinking StarBuck coffee.

In sum, to judge a society's idea we cannot over look the important aspects-traditional culture. Moreover, only relying on the appearance to define a person's character   is superficial.

Appearance and behavior are such exterior features that can not be used to percept the nature. To comprehend a society, we should study it from every aspect and collect more information, not just confined【confine】 in that outside characters.

To sum up, appearance and behavior are quite essential for us to understand a person or a society, but we should not be confined to those superficial things【factors】. Only by knowing from different aspect【aspect】 can we percept the interest or attitudes of a person or a society's values.

Whether the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests? In my view, this issue is a case-by-case basis. The appearance and behavior are sometimes reflecting the ideas and values from the society, but in some other cases, they do not work so.

On one hand, people's look, dress and act, to some extent do reveal with their attitudes and interests. Especially for the professional workers, such like the doctor prefers white color and always keep their stuff in a tidy order. And the actor is likely to get in attract with fashion clothes much more than others. Take a German philosopher for example. Immanuel Kant must be one of the most important philosophers in last hundreds, who stay in his hometown for whole life. And Kant always keeps an ordered arrangement in his life. People living in the town as well, even can check their watches' time while they saw Kant walking on the street in every afternoon at exactly same time. Like his strict behaviors on every trivial things in the life, Kant's attitudes on the academic writings are as same strict as well. And people could find out that Kant's ideas about the philosophic issue are always critical and inflexible. So in the case here, from Kant's behaviors in the reality, people can obvious know his attitudes on academic ideas.

On the other hand, there are many cases in the world that people's appearance and behavior are not revealing with their social background. For instance, in Arab society, women must wear veils for their religious believes. However, in such conservative countries, there are lots belly-dancing girls wear wanton costumes and perform in front of public. Same situation happens in Thailand, one of the traditional Buddhism countries. As we know, the lady-boy phenomenon is quite commonly to see in every tourism place in Thailand. By exchange from male body to some female features via artificial causes, those lady-boys are wearing bare dresses and living only for their abnormal appearances. It might be shock for people who seen them at first glance, yet at least, their government allow the lady-boy living with their own ways in totally opposite Thai society. In short, these cases tell us that someone's appearance and behavior are not always reflecting their social backgrounds, even in the extremely conservative countries.

In final analysis, appearance is less likely in nowadays to be a necessary issue to recognize someone in this pluralistic and blooming world. Take Bill Gates for example, the most wealth person in the world, however prefer to wear causal t-shirts and jeans in his daily life. What is more, there is a trend that lots high school girls are pursuing super-brands in today's society, and so do some ordinary office-workers. Another example here is about the appearances of homosexuals. Like some "tom-boys" in lesbian group are prefer male dressing, but some others are not. And it is easy for people who pretend to be such appearance, yet hard to recognize them. Therefore, the way people look, dress, and act only can take small part to decide the real ideas and values of them, especially in this modern age.

To sum up, the appearance and behavior are some factors that might be used in the way to observe someone, however, in today's world, the way people look, dress, and act are less likely to be the fundamental issue to reveal with their attitudes and interests. Hence, we need see people from different angles to recognize the ideas and values of the whole society.
