Currently, media plays a more indispensable factor than ever for its intensive coverage. The speaker asserts that it is impossible for a community to consider any person as a hero because their reputation will be diminished by media scrutiny. Admittedly, by intensively focusing on a person media can discovery [discover] many flaws, which will mask a hero's brilliance. However, media can create a hero by its incomparable influence as well.
Why does the media can have such power to change a person's destiny? It should ascribe to that by broad covering our community, media can conduct most people's judgment. [上面这句: It should be ascribed to the broad covering our community, which tend to conduct most peoples’ judgment.] On the one hand, media have already constructed such an efficient mechanism: reflect and concentrate some conclusions flooding in the society, process the mass of information and finally transmit to broad audience. Take the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as an example; it produces programmes and information services, broadcasting on television, radio, and the Internet which are the main medias from which people get daily news and other information. It is obvious that once the media delivers [deliver] a piece of news, people around the whole country, even the world will receive the information as quickly as possible. On the other hand, resulted from that every person has to receive far more information than ever, people would like to prefer the processed news and accept without basic evaluation, which will save much time for them. It is coincidence that process is just media do, which causes it can direct people's judgment and preference.
Accordingly, it is hard for a society to regard any individual as a hero. Media have the rights to be free to report the fact, including a person's flaw and gray history. Unfortunately, every tiny disadvantage will be over emphasized and magnified by the intensive report of media. Although it is commonsense that no person is perfect, providing a person's shortcoming is reported again and again, his/her reputation would be greatly destroyed. Bush, the president of the U.S, was nearly lost in the election in 2004 for the numerous negative pieces of news on the Iraq war launched by him. [最好不要拘这样的例子,呵呵] Moreover, modern society has more rigorous standard to evaluate a hero than before, which lead to a critical attitude of media on regarding a hero. It is ambivalent that some people claim that they are tolerant while they are willing to search for celebrity's scandal around the newspaper, television and Internet. [这句不太懂]Meanwhile, media is favorable to report such news to allure more attention to get higher profit. Briefly, it is difficult to regard a hero as the community is filled with an over critical atmosphere.[最后一句总结很好]
However, as a matter of fact, media has to be subject to politics, which will force media to create heroes as [as改成fit] the government demands. Just benefited by the intensive coverage, media can utilize many methods, such as successive report, to make audiences accept a hero. In Iraq war, mentioned before in my issue, the U.S government usually demanded medias to report some soldier's heroic stories to substantiate the justice of the war and strengthen citizens' trust to the U.S government.[还是和前面一样,最好不要用伊拉克战争作为例子] In China, the government also request medias to report some hero’s' stories to prove the prosperity of the rapidly developing society. In addition, though these heroes are not perfect, media will usually overlook their flaws on purpose. Therefore, people are usually encouraged by the splendid stories, ignoring the hero’s' gray sides. In short, it is possible for our society to regard an individual as a hero by the force of media as well.
Summing up, we are still living in an era that is not lack of a number of heroes. Although media are much more powerful to expose a person's disadvantage, it is also strong enough to create heroic stories by the demand of politics for the society are great conducted by the extensive coverage of media.
