Almost every aspect of social life is more or less influenced by technologies, and the social customs and ethics are not exceptions. However, it is still a controversial issue about whether technologies determine social customs and ethics. As far as I am concerned, technology is among the determinant factors to them, and I totally agree with what the speaker maintains.

To begin with, it is the technologies that determine the existence of the social customs and ethics. From the first primitive man using a flint to make a fire successfully, the human being has entered the society which is founded on the base of the improvement of technology. It is the very means though which human beings get their basic needs for live, such as foods and clothes, and it also pulls the human society in the sate of civilization. The social customs and ethics, the outcome of civilization, is consequently formed on the base of technology prosperity. For example, the opinion that to walk nakedly on a street is wrong, or at least something strange, according to most countries ethics. While if there is no technology about making clothes, can all the ethics in these countries might be changed into that it is not right to wrap their bodies with anything. This example well illustrates the technologies effects in determine the existence of the social customs and ethics.

Besides the existence, the technologies also determine the extinction of some social customs and ethics. Watching the Beijing Opera was one of the most popular creations among Chinese people, however, nowadays it is already need the protection from the government to avoid it from disappearing. Facing so much exciting teleplay and films, produced by the technologies, the Beijing opera, which seems to be tedious and hard to understand, is not among the choices of the present populations. The fast speed of the development of technology has push the society to develop in the same dramatic speed, which requires all it citizens to adapt the way fitting this fast space. Those customs which can meet the needs of the society and the citizens can only be retreat from the history stage and be preserved in the museums.

What's more, the change from of the social customs and ethics are determined by technologies, all the same. When we look bank about several hundred years ago, we might easily find that those people seem to dressing in a strange way. As a matter of factor, that is the customs of their time, which is now out-of-date for the technology changes the scopes of the citizens towards what should be dress. Similarly, as a part of custom, the language we use are also experienced the changes brought by technology. Though English language still exists from the day it is introduced, the usage of it and the vocabulary has changed a lot. A case in point is that more than one hundred years ago, the internet and computer is known to nobody. And now it is also hard for those children who are used to cars to imagine driven a cart pulled by horses. The convenience of transportation and communication has united the world as an organic whole. All the nations are related much closer than ever before, and the customs and ethics of one nation is changing to meet the national trend for the better development of every nation.

To sum up, the technology is among the factors that determine the existence, extinction and the change of the social custom and ethic.
