Issue185: “Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. ”

Outline:
1．             丑闻可以引起关注，使我们能够改进制度，更深刻的认识人性，所以有用
2．             根本问题得不到解决，丑闻频出，作用有限
3．             更有甚者，丑闻被利用来达到个人目的。

I agree with the broad perspective that scandals is more efficient than speaker or reformer in making public paid attention on problems, and, to an extent, they can be useful. However, can they solute the essential problems? Are the always useful in any areas? My point is negative, as discussed below.

Scandals are useful in two aspects. First, Scandals are behaviors that offend the moral sensibilities of the society. So they always become focus of public attention, which can give a great pressure on the individuals and communities in the areas, even relevant areas. Through reflecting on themselves’ behaviors, they can recognize the problem and improve the rule to inhibit the happening of analogy incident. Recently, a well-know example is the incident of academic cheat, which makes academia must to erect a more efficient evaluation system, lets educator think about the objective of education. Secondly, scandals can help us humans to find out the nature of person. Media can create a false news for their high hits; officer can accepting bribes for their individual benefit; even army can take part in the drug business for dollars. These all recover humans’ selfish and greedy.

However, scandals can’t help us to do more than recover the problem and alarm our mistake. First, the nature of person can’t change, even though suffering the blaming of all the people. For example, in competitive sports area, there are players who inject cordial almost every year, although there are critical sounds at every time. Secondly, there will never be a perfect system, which can make every person insist on their moral. Any right can become a tool to figure for individual benefit. In modern society, people are conditioned to hear a scandal, and the essential problem exists all the time.

Moreover, in some areas, scandals not only can’t solute the problem, but also become an instrument to achieve an individual purpose. These scandals seriously hurt public emotion and humans’ self-respect, which haven’t a little positive use to the society. Because these scandals is created on purpose, or even just be trumped up, to focus public attention. There are so many examples in our life. For example, some actresses recover their own sex scandals with other popular star or director in order to increase their popularity.

In sum, scandals can focus public attention and uncover some existing problem under some situation. However, they can’t help us solute the essential problem, even become a harmful tool to society in some areas.
