93agree/disagreeuniversity students should be required to take basic science classes even they are not part of the field of the study. 200777日教育类

I strongly agree that college students should be obliged to take curriculums in science whatever their major is. Taking multi-disciplinary classes not only helps students to expand their knowledge span, but is also very practical.

First of all, basic science curriculums endow students, especially those art or business majored students, more chances to know comprehensively about the Earth, the Galaxy and the space we are lived in. Equipped with these knowledge, students could embrace a more critical and objective perspective when considering things. Moreover, when entering college, many students still do not have a clear idea of the field they are learning. The science classes may also arouse students’ interests and make them reconsider their future. One of my friends, Jenny, enjoys her present career as a lab technician in a bio-pharmaceutical factory. However, the first time she entered university, her major is Economics. At the first year, she went through some biology optional courses and found those chemical reaction really ravished her. Then, she made a brave decision to change her major. Now, she always like to say that perhaps she will be more successful as a economists, but she will never be so happy as a bio-chemist, and she believes she will one day be accomplished in this area.

Secondly, the knowledge one acquired from science courses is not barely paper-based theories but applicable in our quotidian lives. Suppose, when you are in a camping and you would like to hold a barbecue party, you catch fish from the river, then, how can you distinguish those edible from poisonous? Biology will tell. Biology teaches you how to judge from the appearance, which fish or which part of the fish is poisonous, or even which fish would be tasty.

Last but not least, science knowledge sometimes is helpful in one’s further career development. With the rapid developing technology, the society is becoming more and more complicate and more and more generalist are required in order to combine and coordinate among different working parts. Thus, a multi-disciplinary curriculum is becoming more and more indispensable. Like me, I was majored in management when I was a college student, meanwhile, I pursue my second bachelor degree in chemistry. After graduation, I easily get a management trainee position in an oil-field services company. Later, when I was chatting with the manager, I asked him why selected me. He said, “We just need a person has know-how in administration but also has some information about chemicals that we are handling everyday, so, you are a lucky girl.”

Just as an old Chinese adage goes “Knowledge has no limit”. The more you learn, the more you possess. Do trust me; the hours you spend on general science will ultimately one day be amply rewarded.

First of all, basic science curriculums endow(这个词用在这里不是很合适endow是捐赠,赋予的意思吧?) students, especially those art or business majored students, more chances to know comprehensively about the Earth, the Galaxy and the space we are lived in.
