Is it true that tradition and modernization are incompatible as the speaker said? Whether we must choose one between them? I concede that in some cases tradition and modernization are really incompatible, but in most cases, they can combine and intertwine with each other. Especially, modernization could comprise and develop tradition.

For one thing , tradition is profitable for the development of modernization. As we known, all things now are on the base of former things even ancient things. For example, modernization traffic goes into a high level development. It is common that we could arrive to anywhere in this globe in 12 hours. Even human beings could send themselves to moon.  While all the achievement and success we obtain today are on the base of the technique more than 100 years ago. Another example that can support this statement is ancient architectures. Many old architectures achieved academicians' visit all round the world. This is not only because the significance and appearance of these architectures, but also because the lofty technique they used. Not come singly but in pairs, things are similar in art, culture, religion domains. Tradition still plays much effect in modern life and can comfort even beautify modern life.

Since the compatibility of tradition and modernization even tradition could be used for reference in modern life, it is wrong for us to choose one between them. First, it is not appropriate for us to cast away tradition. If we abandoned tradition and reserved only modernization, we would forfeit certain important factors. For example, Spring Festival in China and Christmas day in western countries are traditional feast day in local country. If we cast away these feast, the ligament which attaches parents and children will be cut out. Second, it is also improper for us to abandon modernization. Modernization makes our lives more convenient, more comfortable, more effective. People could not adapt the lift style without modernization. Let us make an assumption. If we lost our electricity from today on, lights would not be lightened, it would never be cool in summer without air condition, engine would not be wheel again, computer would not be powered, life would not be peaceful and effective. So, in our modern life, we must combine tradition and modernization.

However, in certain cases, I agree that tradition and modernization are incompatible. Tradition somewhere is unenlightened and blocks the development of technique even the whole society. For example, women are in poor station in tradition. They could not obtain the same treatment with men. They could not go to university, could not gain the same salary with men, must do housework, must look after babies. These traditions limited the development of women. Tradition like this must be abandoned.

In sum, in some places, tradition is embraced and we should combine tradition and modernization to improve our lives. In certain places, we should abandon the laggard tradition and culture to make lives more harmonious and progressive.
