Is complete honesty a useful virtue for a politician to succeed in his or her leadership? The speaker contends it is not, for the reason that we cannot expect and effective leader to be forthright all the time. I concede the speaker's view in some respects; nevertheless, when it comes to a constant and effective leadership in the long run, I hold that the would-be political leaders should maintain a high level of moral and ethical standards.

To begin with, I turn my agreement with the speaker insofar as an good and effective political leader should hold some information back from the public as possible as he could. I just illustrate my point in the two aspects as follow. One the one hand, it is helpful and even necessary for an effective political leader to withhold some top secrets of the country. Consider, for instance, if some superior officials in the American federal government disclose the important plans of attacking one terrorism organization, they would fail in this justice action. Nevertheless, if the political leader keeps some significant information which is essentially relevant to the general's lives from the public, the fundament of the country's democracy would be swayed. Take the panic of Bird Flu as an example, it is some political leaders who withhold the spread of the decease which should be disclose in public that caused the panic of the general people, as a consequence, they lost the residents' reliance on them.

On the other hand, on the individual layer, we cannot expect a political leader to expose all his private affairs to the public because the nature of politics is born with some degree of dishonesty-in other words, the undue disclosure of their private affairs would lead the political leader to be vulnerable. The overdue exposure in the political game, would be consider as the naivete and even the unwise behavior for a politician's opponents will take advantage of their privacies to attack him or her and perhaps beat the political leader in the reelection. However, a sagacious political leader should proclaim his or her political position, ideas and the up-coming policies to the public. It is responsible and beneficial for an foresight politician to demonstrate the effective services of his or her political measures to improve the living conditions of the citizens. When Hillary run a competition of the election of the mayor in New York, every resident was inspire by her public speech of her policies to ameliorate women's social status and children's educations.

In addition, a successful political leader should keep a high level of moral and ethical standards if he or she expects to maintain the leadership for the long term. Admittedly, the rhetoric or even some degree of ingenuousness may lead a potential candidate won the political power or main the leadership for a political leader in the short term, nonetheless, the cheating behavior would ultimately diminish their leadership. Consider Richard Nixon, whose cheating behaviors betrayed his ambition without the political frankness and even the high morality and ethnics, consequently forfeit his leadership. Thus, an effective leader, if he or she wants to maintain his or her leadership and contribute to the society consistently, he should keep a high quality of morality and ethnics as possible as he or she could. We all know that, it is that virtues that made Gandhi and Martin Luther King both the respect and admired social politicians in common people's eyes.

To sum up, as discussed above, I concede the speaker's allegation with respect to the information which are tremendously relative to the safety of the country should be withheld by an effective leader, and he or she should also hide his or her private affairs from the public for maintain the current leadership or winning an election. However, when it comes to a long run for politicians to win their reputations and respect from the public, they should keep a high level of morality and ethics and face the public honestly and confidently.
